get it? It's a concept album. The only one I had to stretch a bit for is the Johnny Black Trio tune, which is actually called "She's the Type", but the chorus does go "she's the type of girl", so I went with it. Otherwise, they're all songs with the word "girl" in the title. Some different genres and styles, cause that's what I like.

Although I'm not in this particular mix bmo was kind enough to give me a copy of his disc. Great idea making a mix with songs about girls. I also liked the cover art. A bunch of killer songs here. I especially like old favs Elvis Costello, Graham Parker, Any Trouble and the Undertones. I love "Girls Talk" but I think I prefer the version Dave Edmunds did better. "The Girl Can't Help It" is such a great song. I find it hard to fathom how the guy singing that song became such a weenie. There were a couple of cool songs that were new to me like "Puerto Rican Girls". Another song I wasn't familiar with but instantly liked is "Radio Girl". I think the only song I didn't really care for was "Local Local Girl". I think it was the glossy sound more than anything as the lyrics are cool. Fun mix.

Cool! I've been working on an ongoing (series of) mix(es) about girls - both songs with "girl" in the title like this one, and one set of songs with girls' names in the title (a la K2's mix) - too bad you were in the trade!

Yeah, I started this one as a combination of songs with girls names and the word girl, but I had too many to choose from so I split it in half. Maybe the girls names mix will make the next trade.

Uh, to clarify, what I meant above was, too bad you were in the OTHER trade (but I am happy to swap with you, and any of the Mix 2-ers who have not already PM'd me!)
woof.

i've been diggin the shit out of this for the past couple days. i know i'm leaving a couple off my fav's list, just because i haven't familiarized myself with the bands yet, but i especially liked
little richard
any trouble
the fugs
jackie wilson...
actually, i liked the whole thing, with the exception of the reggae tune(or was it two?). thanks for the great tunes, bmo.
Thanks, Sparky. Looks like the early returns are that I should have left the Taj Majal song out. Oh, well. Nobody's perfect.

Very enjoyable mix. Very diverse
I don't think that there was anything on this that I really didn't like. The big stand outs for me were:
The Girl Can't Help It - Such a great song "If she smile, then beefsteak become well done." Real serious.
Puerto Rican Girls - Fucking awesome
Graham Parsons - Very cool song (great little hook)

Thanks Josh. That's Graham Parker, not Parsons, though.
Heap are from NYC, they've played the Abbey a couple of times over the last 8 months or so. You should definitely check the out if they come back.
And you're right - that Little Richard song is the real deal.

Have heard this a couple times now and am listening to it now as I write this. Great idea, the overall theme of the mix. Though of course it limited your song selection, bmo, I appreciate your sacrifice for the greater idea. I liked it solidly before but I am now finding that some songs are getting better as they get repeated airings.
Little Richard and The Kinks start it off and I like both of these songs. Interesting to hear Little Richard singing these lyrics.
The Any Trouble song Mr. Whirly had sent me in a trade we did and this one has a pre-chorus and chorus I like a lot.
The Cadillacs -- yes; nice find. Good voice from that cat.
I knew the John Hiatt song, one of the few in the whole trade I knew beforehand. That's my favorite Hiatt era, the pop one, before he became so countrified.
The X song -- knew this one too, from a recommendation by sparky-the-cat a year or so ago. Another good sunny pop song.
Local Girls -- wow, 3 in a row I know. I think I like the original a little more than this version though that little wacky two-note sound on the guitar is funny.
Taj Mahal -- I liked the neighborhood feel of this one. I think I'm more of a reggae fan than most people here.
Had never heard this Beatles song, cool, thanks.
Fugs and Heap -- wasn't crazy about these ones.
Jackie Wilson -- a little affected but in a kind of funny way. Liked the beat.
Johnny Black -- liked this, nice and relaxed and rockin'.
Fevers -- yep, another thumbs up from this thumb owner.
Lloyd Cole -- i don't really like Lloyd's music.
Gigolo Aunts -- I remember seeing these guys back in the early - mid '90s and liking them pretty well, and this song I remember from those shows, one of their better songs.
The Real Kids -- had never heard them before. Guitar riffing is my favorite part of this tune.
good work, bmo, thanks!

thanks M.Henry. I think it's really interesting how different people react differently to different songs on the mix, but still like the overall package.
