I thought this one was one of the better ones.

Less unfunny than the others, yes.

I really appreciate all the hard work that goes into these and they are decently shot and edited.

But if they don't make me laugh or even smile......one of my closest friends in the area has become a principal in these and I really wanna like 'em for her sake. I'm trying, Rob, I really am--but write some actual funny bits, dude, you can do it.

I hope. The general improv just isn't happening.

Method acting?

I think some of these things are things I can relate to from my past: the somewhat crazy people at the rehearsal studio (in my case, the Music Complex), I got levitationally stoned in that Medford/Wincheaster Revolutionary War lookout when I was 19, and of course, Santa's Village...which I never did tripping but my friends and I always talked about going to Riverside (now Six Flags) tripping...

I'm not going to even bother with commenting on the acting/script shit. Needless to say it's fucking terrible pointless stupidity.

But I have to ask johnny, are you blind, or is it just that your ADD gels with the editing in these? What a fucking mess. everything runs into/over one another. It's like it was edited on the 5th day of a coke/meth bender by someone who wanted to see exactly how close he could cut dialog togeher before it becomes one giant stream of consciousness faucet of bad middle school level humor.

It's like giving Rainman access to Protools and a large jar of chocolate covered coffee beans.

I found the homer simpleton beard make up very distracting but the Black guy reminded me of Jackson in Pulp so on balance good job

This isn't a matter of like or dislike. It's poorly edited. no space between the sentences.

They're supposed to be edited tightly.

That the dialogue isn't very good and there are a lot of slack spaces (because it is improvised) there means it gets sewn together in the fashion it is.

Would you prefer endless pregnant pauses and lots of "err's","uhmm's" and "ya know's", Francis Ford Crapola?

I look at it this way.

Not that I'm comparing them on any sort of artistic or talent level, but this kind of psuedo-scriptless notreallyimprov situational comedy is like a homeless person's version of what Christopher Guest has done with Spinal Tap/Best In Show/Waiting for Guffman.

I LOVE that kind of stuff. But the thing that makes them laugh out loud funny is EXACTLY the dead air space. The uncomfortable silence after someone utters an uncomfortable truth about their character. the pause while waiting for a reaction.

This, on the other hand, leaves no space in between, and is really nothing more than a haphazardly slapped together collection of bad stereotypes that stopped being funny sometime around junior year of high school.

But if it were slower, there'd be more of it--you'd want 12 minutes of this as opposed to six?

The title sounds to me like a literary, musical and cultural reference all wrapped up into one.

Take the "Quiet desperation..." of Pink Floyd's ode to British resiliancy in the face of stifling sameness coupled with Orwell's "Keep the Aspidistra Flying", illustrating the point in more detail, if more desolate and hopeless.

Roadsteamer follows in the well worn but worthy footsteps of Gilmour, Orwell and others who have painted with words and music the picture that Roadsteamer so masterfully captures in ones and zeros.
