The title sounds to me like a literary, musical and cultural reference all wrapped up into one.
Take the "Quiet desperation..." of Pink Floyd's ode to British resiliancy in the face of stifling sameness coupled with Orwell's "Keep the Aspidistra Flying", illustrating the point in more detail, if more desolate and hopeless.
Roadsteamer follows in the well worn but worthy footsteps of Gilmour, Orwell and others who have painted with words and music the picture that Roadsteamer so masterfully captures in ones and zeros.

It's not original to those pseudo literary douchebags from England, Pink Floyd. It was that fucking fuckstick from Concord, Henry David Thoreau who wrote the line "The mass of men lead lives of quiet desperation" in his first shitty published essay, "Economy."

I wish I knew what is supposed to be going on in these things. Are they parody's of Allston Hipsters? Is Robbie supposed to be over acting or is he supposed to be coked out? When he say's it's cold and shakes back and forth it's painful. Then we he's shaking looking at the camera and over enunciating every thing. ROOMMATE FROM COOOLLEEEDEEGE.

I think it just makes Robby feel better to assume anyone who criticizes his stuff is some townie mook who "doesn't get it". It's kind of pitiful, really. Robby's one of these guys who has convinced himself he's "The Talent" since doing his half-assed radio gig that basically killed WBCN, and now making these awful, unoriginal, Office/Always Sunny rip off videos.
He should have stuck with the gruff voiced townie character. He can't really escape what he is at heart.

I mean, the guy has the Rt. 1 Mini golf Dinosaur fighting Jesus with nunchucka tattooed on him. If that isn't a declaration that you're a dumb north shore townie who desperately wants to be viewed as "hip" and "meta", I don't know what is.

I think because of your old band and that you like to rag on the "hipster" stereotype, that's where people get it from.
You snowboard, you're an IT nerd, a video game nerd, you like all kinds of punk and metal. Actually besides where you live and the not being into drugs you're probably more "hip" than any of the QD people.

Was portraying a character, Frank. Not pitching the product.
Besides, if Robby were to land the Sullivan Tire gig with the Sox' 2nd baseman, it would be a paying one--which is a lot better than the one he has now. So, for all of his squawking, he'd prolly drown in his own spooge to get a gig like that one.
FrankD
Feb 8 2010, 08:29 PM
your acting helped tell a story that picthed a product.

Aired nationally (internationally?) and you were probably well compensated. Hopefully no spooge was involved.

Reply | Spam Robby, I gotta say that you and Aaron have chemistry as far as the humor goes. IMO you guys are meant to be a duo. Its like a great rock band that is very successful but then looses a member and then just sucks ass. You and Aaron are meant to do this shit.
The times I have laughed the hardest are when you guys are together, and I've been watching since the early days. EARLY DAYS. The Zelda game, honkin the horn in Aarons face on the street corner, tecmo bowl, mini golf...all that.

Parody lyrics are not good for royalties. Because they're based on the original, the original author (Liam Sternberg) would get the loot.
And he never got a dime from "Erection", because his publisher refused to acknowledge the existence of the recording (to do so would be a tacit approval of the use of the song, which would have ended their TRO against us in '87). They've since changed the Fair Use law, but that doesn't help me, Liam or the German cover band much now.

Some people suck at business, the people who owned the song. If I had owned it I would have cut you in for the German's. Sending TRO's, they need a boot up the ass.

Breaking even immediately and then having a lifetime income stream isn't a bad goal. NESN "Boston Boxing: Team Training" one hour finale tomorrow night and then all 7 episodes on Thursday, NESN. Check it. Haha. My side job that I want full time and I'm trying to make it that way. See if I'm in the credits, I don't think so, but tomorrow night some of my camera.
If Rob wants to do the same, it's increasingly easy to do. The tv stations love local content. Unlike the rock stations everybody wanted airplay from....
