Cheers to Dotrat for putting this show together, great job! Fun time!
(Also, cheers to that barrel of 'gansetts that was in the back! I'd do a benefit fo nazi vampires if they had one of these tubs in the back room.)

^You have to hand it to Mikey D, as drunk as he was, dude sauntered through the stuff on stage like he was Tom Cruise in Mission Impossibe.

It's the Mr Shhh Special, ha ha!
Actually, it's a Magstar demo model.
It's really awesome.
Shhh has been kind enough to let me use it for a while.
Props to New Hobby.
This pic could easily be the centerfold in either Snareboy or Snustler:

looks more suicide snare to me. it's edgy.
Mister Shhh
I heard my snare has a pass to The House Of Blues on the 27th. That thing has more draw than my old band.
Mister Shhh
Dan O's Camo Thasher T kinda rules too.

I'd like to apologize for our hurrendous performance at this show.

Church has some sound issues. I'm not trying to blame our bad performance on Church, we should've been better prepared, but that doesn't change the fact that we had better sound (and thus played 20 times better) at Charlie's kitchen 2 weeks ago which has one of the worst PA's around, but the sound was fine for us and we had no problems and played well and had a great time.

I've played Church probably 10 times times since it re-opened, and it has gotten progressively worse, and it already had some sound issues from the get-go. I couldn't hear a damn thing on stage the last 2 shows I've played there. our show there over the summer was even worse than this one stage-sound wise, and every other band that played sounded like total doo doo out front (McGunk's anyone? it was a joke how bad they sounded). My favorite part of that show was how the sound guy threw a mic up 2 feet in front of my amp and goes "ok whenever you guys are ready go ahead" and then walked away from the board for the rest of our set. what the fuck is that? I still had a blast but that was just ridiculous.

I haven't played a good show (performance-wise) there in a couple of years. The stage sound has not been good in ages. I know that they need to turn the bass down before 10:00 but that translated to basically a drummer and guitar player for our set, neither of us could hear the bass whatsoever so we were a complete mess on parts where the bass drives the song and threw off our whole set overall. I personally haven't played that bad in over 5 years (not that I'm that good to begin with). I'm not faulting the sound guy either, Ian did sound the other night - Ian rules. he's done sound for us tons of times before there and other places and does a great job, so I know it's not him.

Again, I'm not trying to make excuses, I just feel like someone needs to speak up and no one is, people just keep saying how great the place is, and while agree with that sentiment about everything else, it's the music that brings people in so to me sound is most important and it's not good.

Thankfully everything else about the place rules and the shows are generally really good there, but let's be realistic. People need to stop sucking up to the place so they can get a show there and speak the truth. Ask around to people off this board and most people who have played there more than 2 or 3 times will agree.

Everyone praises this place, and I really like it too, I've seen and played some really great and fun shows there and always have a good time, but they really need to do something if they want to keep the place open. It's a big room which makes it tough. I don't want to be negative and I was going to keep my mouth shut, but I don't wanna see another club, especially one as good as Church, go down the tubes because people there aren't aware of their problems.

Cue a bunch of people saying how great the sound is and that I'm a whiny cunt.

Just speaking my mind. take it for what it's worth.

I got there late and missed you guys, but, Len, said you sounded great.

there's a reason the bass was turned down during blood vessels and resistance.

don't blame the club or soundguy for exercising good judgement.

you could hear it fine during the resistance.

and I already said I don't blame Ian. he's been doing sound for a long time, works his balls off and he does a great job.

If it is not Ian then what do you think the problem is ?

I know on the whole most people tell me how good the sound is on stage, and I have played the stage myself and never had a problem with monitor mix ..BUT I am very interested in knowing what you think so I can help make it better.

FWIW, I think maybe the PA just needs to be professionally set up/eq'ed/etc for the room maybe?? I'm not an expert, I just know that it's never been perfect, so if less than perfect is as good as it gets, it only gets worse from there.

After the first couple of times I saw shows and played there I thought it wasn't perfect but not bad at all, better than some other clubs around town, and figured stuff would get worked out. It's hard to form an educated opinion after a couple of shows.

My point is that one or 2 times of playing there doesn't really give you an idea of how it sounds in general, but after playing there around 10 times I think I have a pretty good idea of how it is on a good night and a bad night. Ian has only worked on the nights where it was better until this last one, which leads me to believe it's not him but the sound system and that he's doing his best with what he's got to work with. also, I'm pretty sure most of our problems were with the bass being so low. Everything else sounded good, but bass was non-existent. I have video from out front of it too, and the bass is barely there at all.

the rest of the bands all sounded pretty good out front the other night. Not like the show in August where it did not.

And nice to see you the other night.

Having seen/heard a billion shows at Church, I can tell you that something was definitely off on Friday night. I will monitor the shows this week and see if the problem persists, but bear in mind we will do all we can to fix to situation.

Very cool. My first visit was that night and I like the place. My issue is I had to hire a Sherpa to get me from the green line stop at Fenway to Church. Anyway to get a green line stop by the door? wink.gif

I know a bus stops right out front ..but as far as a train stop I have been digging one by myself for about 6 months I figure not much longer
