The Store 24 there (near the Paradise) closed down a few months ago, too. I would've thought that was profitable in that location. What's going on there on Comm. Ave? Are the landowners raising rents to astronomical amounts that the businesses can't afford? Does B.U. own those properties?
I've heard that B.U. has some grandiose vision to eventually make both sides of the street into ostentatious, opulent, upscale retail malls with elevated walkways over the road, but that hasn't happened yet.
not sure about this
i am a fan of store 24, mainly because they carry BALI SHAG cigarette tobacco, but also there is a bit of local familiarity that is nice -
i live in kenmore sq. and this is my understanding:
a new 7-ELEVEN opened up literally right next door, also open 24 hours, esentially cutting STORE 24's business in half.
the STORE 24 was older and grittier and dirtier and people just eventually migrated over to the cleaner 7-ELVEVEN and the STORE 24's business went gradually downhill until they could not afford to be there
HOWEVER, the STORE24 up the street next to the PARADISE ROCK CLUB closed down shortly thereafter.
you would think that would be a good one too...
now, for bali shag, i need to go to SUGAR DADDYS and pay FIVE BUCKS or go all the way to allston to LINDEN MARKET or the STORE 24s up there
