all of those free world series tacos put them seriously behind

I'm baffled as to how a Taco Bell on a college campus can't support itself.

i think that theres more to it than that

- it doesnt ever get REALLY packed

-there's some whacky new combination of corn and processed beef on the window almost every other week trying to lure people in with novelty

-the place kinda smells and looks dirty

-b.u. kids are more into sushi and stuff these days - the salad bar is by far the most popular item in the student-union

it closed down

again, never very crowded - college kids still eat junk, but mcds has such a horrible stigma these days
food at the agganis isnt great, but they have just as many options as mcdonalds - they opened a qdoba right next door, though

I used to like that one. It had two floors and the basement floor was kind of a nice place to read a book while drinking coffee. I used to run track in HS in our meets were at the BU Armory. After our meet we would get McDonald's. A lot of the National Guard guys would be at the McDonald's. The old armory was a cool place to explore (lots of rats though).

That McDonald's is being made into something else. I can see the old floor tiles are still there though.

There's one right in the cafeteria and one down the street, not to mention the Espresso place, why do they need another one?

now that I think of it I've been in there dozens of times over the years and never saw more than 8 or 10 people sitting down and I never had to wait in line.

The McDs stigma is silly considering all fast food chains and many mom 'n' pops serve up the same percentage of life-limiting substances and serving sizes.

BU taco bell memory: some girl got dropped off from a Jag. Acted like an impatient bitch in line. When she got her $1.50 dinner she paid with a $100 bill.

.. the once & awhile i do submit to my cravings, i always end up thinking "why did i get this nasty crap again..??"... while going for that 2nd burrito....

There is also one in east somerville right on broadway - take the orange line to sullivan and then either walk or take the bus - its a kfc / taco bell, though

ANOTHER REASON TACO BELL IS GOING DOWN - there are a ton of "fresh-mex" places everywhere now, qdoba being the big one, but b.u. kids also eat annas and boca grande

No tacos for you!

I work right next door, but never go there. That still sucks, though, because the thought of another fuckin Starbucks is horrifying.

The Store 24 there (near the Paradise) closed down a few months ago, too. I would've thought that was profitable in that location. What's going on there on Comm. Ave? Are the landowners raising rents to astronomical amounts that the businesses can't afford? Does B.U. own those properties?

I've heard that B.U. has some grandiose vision to eventually make both sides of the street into ostentatious, opulent, upscale retail malls with elevated walkways over the road, but that hasn't happened yet.

emsterly
I have yet to talk to any BU kids who are happy about the new Starbucks and a lot of kids are boycotting it. That Taco Bell was the only cheap place on campus to get food, especially with the food joints in the Student Union only being open like 3 hours a day (hours got reduced to "cut costs"?!). But we have THREE Starbucks on campus, two of which are within a 2 minute walk from the new location, and there are 5 other coffee shops within a 2-5 minute walk from there, and another 5 coffee shops that are within a 5-6 minute walk. I AM SO SALTY. FUCK THE NEW STARBUCKS.
Horror Business
You should organize a protest. However, I would advise against locking yourself to the door.

not sure about this

i am a fan of store 24, mainly because they carry BALI SHAG cigarette tobacco, but also there is a bit of local familiarity that is nice -

i live in kenmore sq. and this is my understanding:

a new 7-ELEVEN opened up literally right next door, also open 24 hours, esentially cutting STORE 24's business in half.

the STORE 24 was older and grittier and dirtier and people just eventually migrated over to the cleaner 7-ELVEVEN and the STORE 24's business went gradually downhill until they could not afford to be there

HOWEVER, the STORE24 up the street next to the PARADISE ROCK CLUB closed down shortly thereafter.
you would think that would be a good one too...

now, for bali shag, i need to go to SUGAR DADDYS and pay FIVE BUCKS or go all the way to allston to LINDEN MARKET or the STORE 24s up there

not so many good places to eat in or near Kenmore these days.

BOTH times I ate at that Taco Bell I had the shits.

Qdoba isn't that much better.

At least Starbucks has local folk musicians, although I stay out of them as a rule.....
