Sure, I chime in once in a while, mostly for the opportunity to make a dumb joke. But I vote for the people who I think represent my views. I don't care to try to convert anyone else. I don't care to have anyone else do the same to me. My vote does not mean much on the national level because 1) Rhode Island will always vote Democratic and 2) RI's electroral votes are a tiny fraction of a big state like FLA or NY or CA. So who I vote for in local and state elections is more meaningful in my daily life than the President, and what I do has more relevance there. I can't affect how the lunatics in Florida vote. So I don't really care to discuss them.

This is the open forum but I like music. Most of the stuff I would prefer to read about are music related. But I like sports and gossip and motorcycles and personal stories and boobs also. So all those things are pretty nice to discuss here. I would prefer to have just one forum but unless I get off my ass and volunteer to be a moderator there is not much point in bitching about it. This is their playground so we play by their rules.

Anyway, I was going to make some of these points in the thread where mhaverty is talking about one candidate "losing" to some other candidates although the actual election is a year away. I was also going to take the opportunity to make some joke about him obviously being threatened by strong women because of his obsession with these news items. But really, I don't care enough to want to read more about politics in that thread. And it would get nasty with ad hominem attacks and name calling like it always does. So I thought it would be better to have a separate thread.

To be fair, I am just as uninterested in terrydactyl's ranting about Bush and how he lost his retirement savings in NASDAQ. I disagree violently with some of my friend's political views. I just don't see the point of rehashing it endlessly on here. Maybe some people have changed their minds as a result, I don't know. So carry on, political guys. I don't care.

Typical New Englander liberal rubbish!!!!!!!!!!!!

I find it funny and sad that people generally pay 0 attention to city council races, etc (and I'm guilty of this too), when those are the people most directly answerable to you.

i like boobs, too.
luca brazzi
boobs are great.

I make the mistake of getting into the political arguments thinking that people are open minded enough to listen to views other than their own. but of course, here (and the political debate in this country in general) is all about proving you are right and they are wrong, and that's all there is to it.

so I go back to boobs.

boobs are right. no one can contest that.

In other words, you are the insurance company and politics is 'Player'?

Hillary happens to be the leading candiate for her party and she is a woman. I'm not threatened by her at all. In fact I admire her on some levels even though I disagre with a lot of what she has stood for and what I believe she really stands for. The fact is there is a steadfastly wrong perception out there that she has the women's vote locked up. She might within the core of her party but outside of that she faces real issues that many people are blind to right now. I just find it interesting and so do many of the people here it seems. It also is clear that many here can't separate their own hatred and/or bias in regards to republicans and have a simple discussion as to how the election might just play out. Many people here let their hatred for Bush and the war allow them to think that whoever gets the democratic nod will be a shoe in. Well that sentiment was debunked in 04. Back then the myth of the youth vote rising up and putting a dem in office reared its ugly head again and in 07 the myth that women will turn out in droves and vote for the first woman who has a chance to be president will rear its head I believe. How this is me having a problem with women is your assumption and it is wrong. I think you are smarter than that.

See, I already said it was just going to be a dumb joke, designed to provioke this sort of knee jerk response. I was trying to take the high road. Not real hard, but I tried.

The thing is you were talking about people in Florida. Let's face it, those people are fucked to begin with. Who wants to live where you are guaranteed to have your home/double-wide smashed by a hurricane every other year, or get eaten by an alligator while looking for a lost golf ball? It's a crazy state with crazy people living in it. They could easily vote for Jimmy Swaggart for cripes sake. The fact that they are part of the same country we are is the real problem.

Obviously, some folks have more energy or enthusiasm or commitment for politics than others, and one of the shining graces of our own society is the freedom to proceed through life on more-or-less apolitical grounds, BUT...

...if you think boobs are somehow separable from politics, you're very, very naive.

I'm not afraid to take a strong stand on the issues.

Boobs - Great. Better than apple pie.
Beer - Almost as good as boobs.
Pugs - We need to enact strong laws to prevent pug proliferation. The amount of eye-gunk pugs produce threatens our landfill use. If something isn't done soon, we will lose many acres of valuable resources to pug-eye-gunk (hereafter referred to as PEG). At the same time we should be developing other uses for PEG, perhaps as an alternative energy source to lessen our dependence on foreign oil.

How is the fact that Hillary has high negatives GOP propoganda? Shit her own party has many people in ledarship positions worried sick about that very fact. How is the fact that most people here think she is a lock to be prez in 2008 and me pointing out that it might not be the case party line towing?

You are simply too stupid to separate a discussion about the horserace based on what has been said here repeatedly by many of the regular posters from what some of my political beliefs are.

You can insult me all you like. I don't really care. I am vastly brighter than you would like to believe, and I don't need to pretend I'm the Wolf Blitzer of the Noiseboard in a vague, pathetic attempt to prove it to everyone - like you.

But your political reputation precedes you here. Your feigned "unbiased" commentary on the "Horse Race" are taken with a wheelbarrow of salt, which is why separating your seemingly innocuous comments on the said horse race from your standard fare of narrow minded GOP rhetoric spewing moronity is irrelevant. It's not the discussion that's important, it's the source.

That said, I don't know anyone who thinks Hilary is an absolute lock for anything. Last I saw, Obama has tilted things - but then I don't beleive for a second that ANY of the Democrats have a snowballs chance in hell of winning. Some combination of Romney Guiliani will most likely win this election. Mostly because Democrats can't get their constituency to show up to the polls because too many of them are lazy, fucked up, or liars pretending to be Dems trying to get some kind of handout.

The "Fear of Terr'ists" campaign on behalf of the current Admin has inflicted so much psychological damage on the weak minded constituents of the GOP in the poorer heartland states that it will be decades before they vote Democrat ever again.

But then I don't spend all day scouring every political pundit site and tv show devouring every bit of speculation like you obviously do. I'd tend to find that rather tedious and to be honest, quite boring. The election is a full year away. It's like setting up a tailgate barbeque for the next superbowl before the regular season even starts.
