From Craigslist...for some reason I had to have the giant lobby stand-ups from the Beavis and Butthead movie. $50. As you passed, a motion detector would cause Butthead to say "Hey baby!...heh heh...." They were enormous...took up the entire living room. They went in the trash after a week.

1. What is your most regretted impulse purchase of all time?
I impulsively tipped a waiter at the Spring House on Block Island something like 50% once. That's one of the most expensive restaurants I've ever been to...so it was A LOT of money. But he was awesome, and handled a perfect French service flawlessly, and knew more about wine than the steward, and was very young, maybe 22. I was thinking he should get off Block and go to Paris or NYC and be a proper waiter, he had the skills. I regretted it only because it left me with not that much money for the last two days of my trip, but on the other hand, I'd probably do it again. Truly proper serving is really a lost art.

I don't make a lot of impulse purchases but about 10 years ago I bought an expensive leather jacket that just never really looked right on me. It was more a disappointment that this thing I had lusted for looked so stupid on me. Anyone want a leather motorcycle jacket with a shearling lining??

Here's a pic of Polly being introduced to Caer. Polly is the larger rabbit in the foreground. She's big- a New Zealander, about twice the size of Caer (my next biggest rabbit).
IPB Image

Ms. JJ Millie
jesus, bill, they're taking over, pretty soon you'll be sleeping out on the back step!
Defbil
Nah, this one's just a foster. If she bonds with one of the pairs then I'll keep her, but it won't be any more work than I already have- 95% of the work goes into rabbit #1, and adding more to the mix slightly increases some cleaning and cost, while drastically reducing other work. So all in all more actually makes things a bit easier. Heck, I'm thinking of maybe going from 2 pairs to 2 trios if I find good fits.

This pic does a better job of showing how big she is (about 7-8lbs).

Ms. JJ Millie
she's a brute...but a gorgeous one at that.

OK, i love that big bunny (polly?).
i always wonder why people keep bunnies. do they have personalities?

Rabbits have ridiculous personalities. If they're rotting in a hutch then they're probably bored as hell, but give them some inside living space and you'll fall in love.

I can't really take one in, but if you want to take your neighbors in I can help you set everything up, and I have some supplies to get you started.

If i didn't already have a cat, i might take you up on this. I feel so bad for this poor rabbit!!
But my cat gives us enough troubles (shitting and peeing in our new home, is on anti-depressants, etc), so i cant' take on any new animals currently.

Since i know nuthin' about rabbits, if you have an indoor bunny, how do they go to the bathroom (like in a litter box or what?)? I'd be afraid of my house smelling like a rabbit hutch which can be quite pungent.

They'll use a litter box. I have 5 rabbits in a small-ish apartment and don't have any odor problems. Also, they'll usually bond pretty easily with a cat. Pet stores sell X-Pens (little, protable fences), which you can put around an area rug) and you have a happy bunny and easy cleaning.

Although they poop a lot, rabbits are clean animals. Their poop isn't messy and doesn't smell. You just have to run a vacuum over this rug every day or 2, and empty the litter box every few days.

Are they pooping on this rug then?

well, maybe a bunny or two will be in our future. we might be done with kitties after this latest one (though we love him to death).

do you have an easy time leaving the bunnies behind when you go on vacation?

You absolutey must have someone go and check on them 1-2 times a day, besides that they'll be fine (although maybe annoyed with you for a bit when you return). If you have a single rabbit, you'll want the person to spend some time playing with them- if you have a bonded pair or trio they will keep each other company.

Rabbits have very sensitive digestive tracks. They abolsutely need food every day, and water and hay available at all times (a bale of hay runs $20 and will last about a year for my 5 rabbits). So, you'll need someone to check on them every day to make sure they always have water and hay, and have food for the day. If you leave a weeks worth out for them, they'll just stuff themselves in a couple of days.

The rabbits will poop a little bit on the rug- they do it for territorial reasons. It's easy to clean up, though- it's not messy. You just run a vacuum over it. I go to the carpet outlet 1-2 times a year and pick up a plain 5x8 or 6x4 rug for $25.
