Lon Chaney Jr's "The Wolf Man" is on now. "Creature From the Black Lagoon" is on next. So much for turning in at a reasonable hour....

You know, I'm watching it now, and it's still a pretty perfect movie of that genre and time period. The underwater photography is stunning. The Creature costume is cunningly designed (a small airtank was hidden in the dorsal fin on the back) and absolutely convincing. I'd really like to see the 3-D version sometime. I should really just buy that fucking boxed set of the three movies.

I saw the 3-D version in a theatre a couple of years ago, and it was even more awesome than I thought it would be.
I have a sweet Universal monster box set - every Frankenstein, Dracula, Mummy, Creature, and Invisible Man. I don't know if it's still available, but it is worth tracking down.

As one can tell by my name, I own all of these movies. But everytime they are on TV... it's different. Even these days, there's something about the monster film being shown at midnight or after on TV-- with no option to pause, fasforward or rewind-- that makes these movies what they are.

And now we have the '80s Jeff Goldblum version of "The Fly." Which really was a pretty great movie.

Awesome. The scene where his head splits open is another of my favorites.
