Allswellgirl – Drive

This mix is designed for a road trip. Some songs are about driving or moving, others are just good driving songs.

David Holmes – Gone (from the K&D Sessions) – C’mon, it may not have any vocals, but it speaks volumes as you’re pulling out of town.

Fu Manchu – Boogie Van – Some of the best times have been in a boogie van. Ideal for the onramp and getting up to speed.

Dozer – Crimson Highway – One of my favorite new(er) bands – Zay Komm from Sveeeden.

Boris – Electric
– By now, you’re doing 80 and gripping the wheel tight. Japanese primadonna rock band with a real showy drummer.

David Bowie (Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars) – It Aint Easy – Turn it up a little more and sing it at the top of your lungs!

Langhorne Slim - Restless – I stumbled across this guy at The Middle East. Not quite-as-scrappy Dylanesque.

Melvins –Civilized Worm – this is the “hit” from their latest record.

Bible of The Devil – Judas Ships – This CD has been in my car since it came out this summer. Harmonizing guitars are so EPIC!

Slough Feg – Hiberno-Latin Invasion
– Brothers of Bible of The Devil and solid rockers.

Deadbird – Rorshack Sky
– These guys are real composers – their live show is like a super sludgy climb on a music theory jungle gym.

Jello Biafra with The Melvins – The Lighter Side of Global Terrorism – punk rock + The Melvins = a winning combination. I’d still like to hear just one solution from Jello, though.

Sasquatch – Believe It – Another one of my favorite new bands for which I have Arz to thank.

Doomriders – Ride or Die – Yeah, they’re talking about a skateboard, but drive like you mean it!

Leather Nun – Unknown
– Swedish hard rock band from the late 70s – don’t know much about ‘em.

Mariah Carey – Shake it Off
– HAHAHAHAH! C’mon, you probably hate ice cream and sex, too. Damn, this is a catchy song, and it fits in with the theme – don’t you ever just want to cast someone aside and go for a drive? Fine, skip it if you’re afraid your teeth will fall out.

Victory At Sea – Bored Otherwise
– For the introspective ending to your trip, just as you’re reaching some familiar ground again, you start thinking about where you came from.

Thievery Corporation – Heaven’s Gonna Burn Your Eyes – Just to let you back down easily.

Thanks for listening! smile.gif

Bold move with the Mariah Carey, Allswellgirl. I can't say it was my favorite track on the mix, but I appreciate the spirit! Nice job with the theme and the overall flow of the songs. Favorites for me were the Bowie tune, Victory at Sea, and Thievery Corporation.

Thanks!

I'm listening now but can't help piping in.Leather Nun are awesome. The one and only time I saw them in Boston may as openers for Echo & The Bunnymen @ The Wang Center in 1987. And they blew ETB off the stage. Full review soon.

Just finished listening to it- good stuff. Lots of good grooves. Favorite for me:

David Holmes
Dozer
Bowie
Melvins

I like almost everything on here- thanks!

I can definitely see where this is a drive mix, especially with load of guitars that comes with many of these tracks. I'd have to say that Dozer won out as my favorite track, followed by Bible of the Devil. There's something a little too slow about that Melvins track, unfortunately.. doesn't do too much for me. Slough Feg's lead vocalist has a vocal approach like James Hetfield, but does the rest of their music sound like a throw back to Metallica's pre-Load days? Probably a group to follow up on.

I love David Bowie, but there's something about 'It Ain't Easy' that I could never get into. It's alright.. but I always found it as an ok bridge track to get from the great 'Starman' to 'Lady Stardust'. After bands like Sasquatch, Doomriders, and Leather Nun, I will also have to say that Mariah Carey track came from out of nowhere. It's true, though.. very catchy like a lot of today's overglitzed 'n mixed hip hop and r&b. Can't blame you.

I'm not really big into heavier music, but I thought there were some really good tunes in here that I found very listenable enough to put on repeat. Thanks!
