Oh man, sorry to hear that! I will always remember him because Alpo used live across the street from me in Marblehead around 1980 '81, he once told me this story about Stiv Bators asking him to join the Dead Boys he said to me that he shot back 'Fuck You I don't wanna play bass in your rip-off Iggy Pop band'...

Hi everyone,
It's true had to register to tell ya.
I just got a call from a friend who got a call from Mary Joe Felice.
The wake will be sometime this week.
He has now passed on to shangrila as my good friend said.
He was an awesome soul, great musician and lost his his way, but now is found in peace.
RIP Alpo
All kindsa girls will never forget you.

Damn. For all his quirks and faults he was a true rocker in every sense of the word. I remember taunting him at a softball game and he responded by calling me a "fat Kentucky Fried Chicken eating motherfucker." He was so loaded at a Nervous Eaters gig once they literally had to prop him up against his amp and he kept sliding off to the side. One night he was coldcocked by skinny little Jimmy DuFour after trying to run off with his Mosrite bass at the Rat.
But he was the real deal, a little bit dangerous-seeming but a rocker to the core. And when he was on he did Boston rock proud while looking like the fifth Ramone.
RIP Mr. Paulino. He's joined Bobby Morin and Matthew McKenzie and Lee Ritter and Terry Hanley and Lou Miami and....fuck, it's a Cantone's reunion up there.

Crikes! I saw him play not so long ago, with The Nervous Eaters downstairs at The Middle East. I remember thinking to myself how good he looked up on stage playing like a bastard out of hell.
Despite what anyone says about him being tough guy and all, he was always incredibly sweet and kind to me when I was a little nipper who barely knew who The Real Kids were. He once told me that I was too much of a hottie rocker not to be in a band. Asked me if I wanted to be a lead singer in his band. What band? I have no idea. He was probably high out of his mind at the time.
Shit. What a damned shame.
R.I.P. Alpo.

I just got this notice on myspace:
From: Phantom Productions
Date: Feb 8, 2006 11:40 AM
Subject: RIP Alan Paulino ( Alpo)
Body: Alan Paulino an old friend and phenomenal bass player passed away Monday night. He was an original member of the Real Kids and most currently a member of the Nervous Eaters. Once I get more information about his wake and funeral, I will post the info on here. His family lives on the North Shore in Mass, so the services will more than likely take place somewhere on the NS.
Perhaps they will be posting more updated info from their site:
