MOB is more popular because for some reason they are more known. Maybe of Moby covered a 'Hoods song.. who knows?
I like a small handful of MOB songs but a lot of their stuff isn't for me.
I broke out my MoB Rycodisc released in 1988 over the weekend and like K2 only a few songs do anything for me,to me the Hoods have much better songs. Hoods coming to southeast mass??...........stay tuned.

That's a good question!
I remember seing the Foo Fighters years before the Burma reunion and Dave Grohl dedicated a song to one the best bands around Mission of Burma. I was amazed!!! A guy form Nirvana knew of Burma? wow!
The only differences that I see is that Burma went out with much more finality. With Roger Miller's hearing going, nobody ever expected a reunion. They were more art rock than the Hoods and in that way maybe they were much more ahead of their time. Plus Burma played many all ages shows. There was a BIG all age scene back then. Burma would play with SSD etc. They were tied in with the Hardcore scene even though they were more art rock. I don't remember any all age shows from the Hoods. Then again, maybe it was just that Mission of Burma was spray painted all over Boston and Cambridge. Does anyone remember that?
The Hoods played more years, more gigs, and to more people. In a way I think that for their reunion show they could have really promoted it and played a big show at Avalon. Not that I'm complaining mind you!
I remember hearing that in the Hoods prettiest girl heyday they had offers from every major label none of them gave them the complete control that they wanted so they turned them all down. Anyone ever hear that? Or is it myth?

Minehan always seemed to have alot of respect for MOB and I saw him at some of their shows. Even MOB influenced some of the Hoods earlier work like "Sense" and they even covered the MOB song, "That's How I Escaped My Certain Fate". They were probably even on the same billing at some of the shows in-and-around Boston.
I hope the Hoods start breaking out some older songs from the Fire Is Coming stage (and just prior to that). There are some gems like "Change", "Witness", "Can't Go Home", "Cash Dancing", "Limbo", "DayDreams", and "Shake".

The last song they played at the Rat was That's How I Escaped My Certain Fate wasn't it??
Hey did Dave ever play on any Westerberg recordings??

Dave told me way back then that the label wanted to put that band into the studio, but it never happened. Shame, because they were an insanely good band. He also said that Paul had called him several times about playing on his 2nd album, but Dave turned him down. He was just cranking up the Startdarts at that time.

That is a shame. I have a DVD of a Westerberg gig from '93 from First Avenue in MN. His band then, Dave, Josh and Darren Hill were so good. The gig is great even though it's shot from the crowd. Minehan is wild on it!!! When isn't he wild?

Various Artists
Ace of Hearts
12 Classic 45s
25 songs
I’d be lying if I said these were all classics in my book, but this is a damn good primer for anyone looking for an introduction to Boston’s garage rock glory days, or for anyone who loves hearing a great drummer or three. The best thing about this collection is that you can’t really differentiate the A-sides from the B-sides. Sure, the two best tracks, the urgent teenage rebellion of Mission of Burma’s “Academy Fight Song” and the infectiously bouncy garage pop of Lyres’ “I Want to Help You Ann” are A-sides. But can you really call The Neighborhoods’ power pop gem “No Place Like Home” or Burma’s “Max Ernst” B-sides? It’s not just those big names that grab your attention either. The wonderfully named Tomato Monkey offers two distinctly different but equally impressive songs, the spunky “Mostly Torso” and the more thoughtfully paced “Joe Transit.” How I’ve gotten this far into the review without mentioning Classic Ruins’ “1+1<2” is beyond me. Really, the only major misstep is the inclusion of four later-era tracks from Chaotic Past, whose banshee-howled hard rock sounds grossly out of place. (Kevin Finn)

Next show we're playing the entire FIRE IS COMING album!!! I actually like the idea of doing an album from front to back during a show. Well I know we've played everything off of ..the high hard one... except Right As Rain and She's So Good at least once, some of them twice; and I know it's the same deal for Reptile Men except for Cliches, Reptile Man(which will definitely be in the next set) and Wailing Wall. We've played everything else off of that which is my most favorite one. Oh yeah, we just booked a show. Stay tuned!!!!! Don't you just love having to wait.

Since your going back to that period ,why don`t you guys throw in THIS TOWN, NOW AND CULTURED PEARLS just for good measure .
As far as doing an album a night thing, I'd really like to see the band do an entire set featuring only songs that were written before the first album came out. I've only seen maybe 4 of those songs done live.

Gotta go with Johnny Rock on this. If you're looking to play it in front of a ball game, the '91 version is more appropriately "anthemic".
But "Pure & Easy" gets my first vote.

KISS did perform The Oath, A World Without Heroes and I on the show Friday's in '81. This may have been one of Ace's last live gigs with the band. Blackie Lawless was in the audience. Heroes was regularly performed on the '95 Convention tours and ended up on Kiss Unplugged. The Oath is killer, so is Only You, Under The Rose and Just a Boy!!!! Kiss rules...HOODS '06!!!!
