no offense whatsoever, but isn't this something to consider before deciding to have kids? We did think of it beforehand and I already posted that I'll use my 401k if needed, and if that what is needed for me to have a fmaily then so be it. Please go be a smarmy douche elsewhere. Do you know the sex yet??
I don't know if it helps, but we have friends in Somerville who use Bunker Hill (they have no affiliation to the school) for daycare, and they are really happy with it, and it's WAY more affordable than some of the other options in the region (I think they said it was about $1000). They are the kind of couple that would check everything about the daycare thoroughly, so I trust their opinion. In other news, my mom said to me a few weeks ago that she will be my daycare when I have a kid. SCORE for having an awesome mom. |

when it comes to daycare it makes me glad i live in the middle of nowhere in a small town. year one we used a friend who came to the house every day for 250 a week. This year a friend who owns a great daycare place opened up a slot for us (we got pushed to the top of the waiting list) because my wife taught her daughter music in middle and high school. We pay her 125 a week and she gave us a discounted rate because music was her daughter's favorite subject.

i said no offense & meant it. just observing the uh, novelty factor of seeing such a question out here. I asked people how they afford it and have gotten some good responses. You have a real tendenancy to post like a little bitch sometimes, and the post I replied to is one of them. This post has been edited by Defbil: Jan 4 2010, 11:33 AM |

They highly recommended it, years ago. |

A coworker was able to snag a woman from their day care center and now she goes to their house. Their 3rd kid who was born prematurely so it works out great. Now with 3 kids under the age of 5 it's cheaper to pay her as a nanny than have 3 kids in daycare.
Also there must be something in the water here as so many people have had 3 kids! This post has been edited by lisalisa: Jan 4 2010, 11:42 AM |

I worked full time at my daughter's daycare for a 50% discount.
Ended up getting certified to teach in Mass. and am currently seeking employment in the Food Service Industry. |

If you think daycare is pricey, just wait till pre-school....... We get town-run preschool/. We're hopeful that only the first year or so will really hurt, and we're gonna try to stretch that out as far as we can through alternating leaves of absence. We can do 6 months with legal protection and possibly stretch it to a year if ouy companies agree, but then we're living off 1 income. |

does your employer offer a section 125 plan where you can pay for day care pre-tax?

while you live in quincy, is there a daycare near your work that might be more outside the city (sorry, i don't recall where you work)? home daycares do tend to be cheaper. back when lil' drunk was in daycare i was paying $4/hour and that was in the early 90's. i know someone in westwood that runs her own daycare. i could ask her if she has any suggestions for the areas you want, just let me know where. she used to work for DSS so i trust her judgment.

If I had "joined the church" at my kid's pre-school, I would have gotten 1250 a year off tuition.
Three days of the dogma and 45 minutes away from pay day, I couldn't do it. Faking orgasms is easier than faking teh Christian. |

best part of sending a kid off to daycare is the different strain of cold the kid comes home with every week and passes on to you

I might take you up on that. we're real early in the formal search, but i'll let you know. and i appreciate everyone's suggestions and info- much appreciated! |
