Trophy hunting:= bad, hunting for food when one is hunting an overpopulated animal like deer=good for deer in general because there are too many of them and if you kill them instantly it's a hell of a lot more humane than factory farms.

After you smack into a couple of them in you car, you become willing to carpetbomb those fuckers.
Also- venison is pretty good. 'Deer Jerky' is particularly...OK.

I've never eaten deer. However, those fuckers are all over the place near me. Like pigeons in the Boston Common.

I don't have a problem with hunting really. It's the people who own guns because they think they need to protect themselves that make me laugh.

T&R had a 911 call from an elderly woman in the middle of oklahoma or some shit this morning that was compelling argument to the contrary. bear in mind, I'll likely never own a firearm, but this shit was fucking nuts. dude was breaking in to her house, she called 911, got official authorization to discharge the weapon by the police and pumped a round square in to the guy's chest. Good for her. Honestly, it was an amazing thing to listen to. Fuckin nuts.

Venison is delicious!

Do you have a problem with people owning guns to protect themselves (as opposed ot just finding them amusing)? Let me rephrase - laughing at these people and supporting laws that don't allow people the right to bear arms are 2 different completely different things. Which side are you? Strictly out of curiosity.

oh and by and large every time i eat venison (which is every year at Christmas at my brother the hunter's house) i try to convince myself that it is better than it really is. The summer sausage and stuff is good but i've never liked the tenderloin, roasts, ground, etc.

Nothing wrong with hunting for food.
I think it is humane to thin the deer population (for a specified length of time during a specific season)....otherwise a portion of them would starve to death if they were allowed to breed unchecked.
And venison is yummy.

I haven't hunted since I was a kid. I do own a few guns and enjoy target and skeet shooting. Also, as they say, "When seconds count, the police are only minutes away".

Laugh away!

I'm not looking to amend the constitution, but I do think more state and even city-level control over registration and background checks are necessary.

I understand some lonely old lady in podunk Oklahome where cops can't reach her using a gun for protecton.

I don't see the point of letting some clown from Newton who drives a jacked up/detailed pickup truck, dresses like a Jersey Shore Guido, and keeps a glock in his glovey in case shit gets heated at Waterworks or The Kells is really necesary.

I also think there should be different registration types/levels for "one gun for home protection" and "I want to collect all kinds of completely unnecessary weaponry because that nigger Obama is going to set off a race war pretty soon and I'm going to save the White world single handedly - you just watch."

Sometimes (particularly if its a buck) it is really 'gamey' and tastes pretty brutal. Otherwise, stuff is pretty good. If you're trying to convince yourself its beef, it'll never work- unless you disguise it with seasoning (stew, sausage, etc)

A large portion of them would get killed in the road and cause traffic accidents. Man, its a serious hazard down here...

I can't argue with any of this, but classifieing citizens is a slippery slope, so I don't see this ever happening.

Oh believe me, I grew up in the sticks and I've been eating the stuff yearly since high school. It's not a matter of convincing myself it's beef, it's just a matter of liking that gamey leaner dense meat aspect of it.

I have mixed feelings on guns. Owned 'em, shot 'em, and my folks don't live too far from where those NH scumbags went around knocking on doors until someone let them in and they killed the homeowners.

But one time when my dad was overseas there was a commotion on the back porch/laundry room at 3 a.m. Someone or something was clearly in the house and only my brother and mom were home at the time. They went down and found the drunk wife of a family friend thrashing around in a laundry pile on the floor. She lived way over in Vermont about 45 minutes away but she had pulled in at our house in a drunken haze on her way home from drinking in Keene.

Had my father been home there is a damned good chance she would have been plugged with a 9mm.

in that 911 call - it sounded like she could have just walked out of her other door and waited for the cops or slammed the guy over the head with an iron frying pan. she was as calm as a priest in confession. the dude was knocking on her door before he broke in, and i'm going to go out on a limb here and guess that he was loopy on drugs.

i'm not against scumbags getting killed - it just seems like this event is going to haunt this nice woman for the rest of her life.

Yup, I grew up in western Ct and I had personally hit deer with a car two different times by the time I turned 18 yrs old. Scary.
I now live in Southern RI and there was an extreme overpopulation of them on the island of Jamestown (RI) until very recently. I consider myself a liberal, but I couldn't stand the ignorant crunchy granola old hippie carpetbaggers who protested having an organized, limited hunting season (bow and arrow only) to thin the deer population. Finally after years of discussion, The granolas lost their fight and the deer are no longer starving/getting hit by cars/wreaking havoc on that small island. Unfortunately there is still an abundance of deer ticks and Lyme disease is very prevalant.

totally going to haunt her - she kept saying she was so sorry and shit too.

dude was drunk off his ass and had a huge police record - end of the day, she only shot after he tossed a bench through the window and i don't blame her one bit for what she did.

I'm guessing the woman now wishes she fired a warning shot. She really fell apart after blasting the guy.
