That's awesome when he clenches his fist for emphasis. He does it like 15 times in every video. Bryan Adams totally copied that move.

Do You Believe In Love is a good song. The rest - not so much. Heart of Rock And Roll is the Old Time Rock and Roll of yacht rock, and both songs really suck.
There is much better yacht rock out there. "Bad Sneakers" by Steely Dan may be the start of yacht rock as I think it was the first appearance on background vocals by Michael McDonald, though Steely Dan itself was too weird and dissonant to be actual yacht rock. |

While I hated Huey Lewis at the time, the songs have aged well in a nostalgia drenched cinge inducing but endearing way.
That video for Heart & Soul ... wow. SO fucking EIGHTIES. Heart & Soul |

Their song Jacob's Ladder is great. Probably because Bruce Hornsby wrote it.

Huey Lewis and the News seemed like they were a pretty good live band. I saw a performance of theirs On Demand not too long ago. It was one of those Rockpalast broadcasts from Germany and the band was definitely drivin'.

One more thing, their lead guitarist was really a pretty amazing player. One of the more underrated guitarists of the 80's.

JESUS. I can't get 'Heart and Soul' out of my mind for the past 24 hours! Two o'clock this morning If she should come a calling I couldn't dream of turning her away And if it got hot and hectic I know she'd be electric I'd let her take her chances with me You see, the gets what she wants'Cause she's heart and soul She's hot and cold She's got it all, hot loving every nightCan't you see her standing there See how she looks, see how she cares I let her steal the night away from me Nine o'clock this morning She left without a warning I let her take advantage of me You see, she got what she wanted'Cause she's heart and soul She's hot and cold She's got it all, hot loving every night |

plus didn't his band back elvis costello on his 1st album? Yes. Without Huey. Huey also played harmonica on a live Thin Lizzy record if that gets him any more cred here. Forget what record, a guy I used to work with played it for me. Seems to me like Huey kicked around playing in different bands for a long while and finally found something catchy that people liked and cashed in on it. Nothing wrong with that as far as I'm concerned. |
