It looks like one of the guys that got shot in NJ is not going to make it. The guy risked his life to stop a killer. He and his team did -- they killed the guy. But it's looking like Det. DiNardo did so with his own life.
http://bit.ly/fiHH7 (CNN) -- A Jersey City, New Jersey, police officer shot in the line of duty last week is not expected to survive, a police official said Monday. "Detective Marc DiNardo's condition has deteriorated, and his demise is imminent," Police Chief Thomas Comey said in a news conference. DiNardo was one of five officers wounded as they tried to enter an apartment holding a shooting suspect and another person. Officials say the officers were met with gunfire and a shootout ensued. Both suspects were killed. DiNardo suffered two gunshot wounds to the face. Family friend and fellow police officer Melissa Bartholomew read a statement from DiNardo's family, which includes his wife, Mary, three young children and his parents. She said DiNardo, whose 38th birthday is Wednesday, had a personality that no one could forget. "Marc was not a selfish man. He was a moral man. A man who gave himself for those who couldn't care for themselves," Bartholomew said. DiNardo's family plans to donate his organs, said Joe Scott, president of LibertyHealth and its Jersey City Medical Center. "This unselfish act will live on in the lives that Marc will impact through organ donation." Officer Michael Camacho's condition was upgraded from critical to serious, and he has been moved out of the intensive care unit, Scott said Monday. Camacho was shot in the neck during the gun battle. The other three officers were treated at a hospital and released. |

My parents still live in JC - heard the rumor that the officer had died Sunday night (although I'm guessing it was more like he had been declared brain dead then).
The autopsy on the shooter found 19 bullets in his body.....must've been one hellacious shootout when the cops tried to storm the apartment. |

The officer passed away @ 930 this morning. He had been promoted to detective while in the hospital.
