Dude, I don't really like their music. And I don't like the logo. It's that simple. I don't like The Germs musically...but after seeing the movie, I respect what they did. And now I plan on learning about Slapshot's legacy and respecting them for that. But honestly, I'm not into their music. So, stop trying to make me seem like some fashion punk or whatever. I don't live in Allston, I got spiked hair and I live in one of the scummiest areas of Revere...so I ain't some fuckin' glammy mook or whatever you think.
If you're gonna get all weird cause I made a comment about a punk show in Revere then fine dude. It's just funny being a kid from Revere, hating the city as a teen, being one of only 3 punk rockers there in the late 90's..and then ten fucking years later you're booking every touring band there, with your band opening of course. Hell, it was funny when Red Invasion played with The Ducky Boys in Revere....it was pretty trippy. It's just funny to me. Nothing bad, no trouble. And I bashed Flatfoot 56 because they are run by their dad and rip off the DKM with a side of Jesus...sorry for stating my opinion...which are actually facts. So for you to try to paint me as some dickhead fashion punk is retarded. I played baseball for half my fucking life and I've been in the punk scene for the other half. Yea I'm a total Casualty 40 Oz anti jock glam 77 US 81 dickhead. Red Invasion has done everything I ever really wanted us to do, with minor exceptions. Hence the opinions of people who think we're glam, we're an image band, or whatever, mean nothing. I've gotten respect from people who have influenced my band and that's all that matters to me. Hence people who want to judge us cause we don't wear scally caps....well, whatever. But there are plenty of people who know we really don't give a fuck and if anything, know I'm genuine. We're not a "Boston" band, we just happened to be born here. In the end, thanks Mark for understanding where I come from. And thanks to Jeff Bruisers, who realized I was coming at this whole thing from more of an intellectual standpoint. I do not like Slapshot's music, but I enjoy learning the personal side to them, knowing that they weren't a hockey hardcore band like they seemed to come across as. So Shawn, much respect for what you do in the scene but it seems you got me all wrong. Judge a dude by his band's image much? |

Say what you want about Red Invasion, that dude rolls around on the stage and gets all into it. He makes me feel like I phone it in.

It's getting old, but I've realized more people pay attention to my antics than to our songwriting....gotta give 'em what they paid for. My next band with Chaz Mathews, I'll probably be in a rocking chair...that's if I can get him out of his. |

I know what you mean about them hosting shows in Revere. I grew up in Charlestown where I was 1/2 of all punk rock fans in the 90's. I got an email a few weeks ago that they are gonna be holding punk/hardcore shows at the K of C here now. Totally weird.

It's tough when you're playing guitar, but if I were just a singer I'd totally be aping HR's schtick, jumping off PA's and shit. I sang once without my guitar when my old hardcore band played a show in Worcester in '88 and my singer got lost. I sang and let the other guitarist play my parts. It was awful. First time I ever sang without a guitar was even earlier in '86 at a party when I was drunk and my Ibanez Destroyer took a nose dive. I dropped the guitar, grabbed the mic and started rolling around like Morrison on the garage floor screaming "I don't care", getting in people's faces and calling them shit and finishing up by throwing around a bunch of choice racial epithets and generally mean spirited shit about starving children in Africa. I have a tape of it somewhere. It's a real gem. |

Seeing The Duckys, The Casualties, and The Vigilantes in Malden in '98 was still one of the trippiest shows. I was always used to taking the T to the 1st and 2nd church or Quincy, or some place far for a show...that night me and my friends took the bus from Revere to Malden(also known as the trail of tears) for the show and it just felt weird hahah. |

This whole thread is hilarious to me.
If i did ever say anything about red invasion vieira, i don't remember, and honestly don't care. I have no quams with them. If a band member said anything about them, that's their issue. but i think you are thinking of someone who isn't even in my band. Honestly joey, i don't care what anyone listens to and likes or dislikes. So, there is really nothing to squash. I made the logo/fashion thing as a snide remark, didn't expect people to get too excited about it. Hell, a lot worse has been said about people on these boards. But hey like i said before, it's a good read. And if people get heated about sarcasm, what the hell are you doing in Boston. Everyone is so frickin sensitive and testy, no wonder emo took over the world. Now, just go see the movie. I'm getting a beer and enjoying the summer-like weather. Happy weekend everyone. |

at the time everyone knew they were empty. if you think about it why bring all that crap if everyone knows the "secret"? ...because it's only funny and ironic when the crowd is in on it. If we thought they were trying to pull a fast one on us we would have laughed at them instead of with them. |

...best part about that show in Worcester in '88 is when Wrecking Crew and Token Entry played and the whole crowd split to either side of the floor and played hardcore Red Rover/Red Rover. It was a fucking riot.

So Shawn, much respect for what you do in the scene but it seems you got me all wrong. Judge a dude by his band's image much? Joey, don't get me wrong... Slapshot wasn't some unity band. It was for like-minded hardcore kids. Punks, metalheads, stoners were always around at the shows but they were on the outside. Funny since Risteen was a curly headed stepchild in his own right... anyway, my point is, if you HAD BEEN around then you would have had more of a reason not to like the band than their apparent jock mentality (which is accurate by the way). It wasn't a strictly jock thing, but it was about as boneheaded and exclusive. Only reason I look back fondly is I was a young kid and enjoyed the fuck out of those shows, the fucking energy and sheer insanity of dancing in those pits. But from an outsiders POV or with years of hindsight, yeah it was stupid shit that I wouldn't expect you or anyone else who advanced beyond 8th grade algebra to enjoy. I'm not talking shit about the band, I loved that shit. Still do! But the sentiment was what it was. You were on our side or not. You ate meat or didn't. You bathed or didn't. You cut your hair or made it stick up with egg whites and/or toothpaste. You liked Boston OR New York, but not both. It was fun to belong, but it was boneheaded, just like most of the shit I did for the 80's and 90's. God knows I'm not exempt!!! This post has been edited by Jeff Bruisers: Apr 17 2009, 05:04 PM |

I was at that show, probably 1989. First time they played What's At Stake. Even though I was a skater and, (god forbid) wore sneakers, I remember thinking that that wasn't Slapshot. I think this pic was taken at the show we're talking about. That's me and my buddy Bryn in front. The night before this guy showed up at Bryn's apt in Allston and wanted to give us coke to write on him with a marker, piss on him and beat him up in the tub. ![]() |

Dude you and joey leave countless retarded posts on every board you're on. You got more time on your hands than me.
And it was certainly not a member of my band that said that. Get your fucking facts straight. And i stand behind ANY of my opinions, sarcastic or not. You or the other member of your band who post on Lind's board said something about not understanding how they get on shows or something like that. I went back and checked ('cause I remember there being anti-RI stuff on the Boston Rules thread and another one about a show we played at Church last December that RI was on)..It was Squallie and a couple of other people (mostly Squallie), but definatly not Shawn dissing Red Invasion. Shawn never did. This post has been edited by Jesse Vön Kenmöre: Apr 18 2009, 03:07 PM |
