the following was sent to me by Karen from Girl On Top and is sad news about a legendary guitarist from Boston:
"R. I. P. Jack Rootoo (Richard Galivin) passed away last night after finding out a couple weeks ago that he had cancer of the esophagus. Jack played with Lou Miami and the Kozmetix in the 80's and then from 1988-2002 with Girl On Top. Luckily, I was able to say goodbye. Jack also was an artist, woodworker, father, husband. He was surrounded by much love on his last days. I will put an email out as soon as I find out when the services are." |

A truly sad day for Boston Rock. Karen was kind enough to bring me into the loop on this last week. Jack was a great player, and now I'll treasure my memories of having shared a stage with him a few times. He was an extremely dignified, very classy person. I used to tell him how much he reminded me of my idol Bela Lugosi, and he'd just smile and laugh. My heart goes out to his family, certainly Karen, and all of his friends. He will indeed be missed. the following was sent to me by Karen from Girl On Top and is sad news about a legendary guitarist from Boston: "R. I. P. i was always reminded of a young or ageless Brian Wilson and told him so
i thought the look of the Kozmetics band was great what with Lou looking like an anxious androginist Pink Flamingo fascist lover and two fierce pierced tattooed broads on drums and bass and sweetheart Jack in an Ivy League sweater or vest churning out all that punk mayhem or acutesick Timmy gitar sound |

Sad news indeed, Terry has the apt description of the Lou Miami band and he seemed like a really nice guy. It was very sad about Lou & this is sad also.

It's hard to believe that esophogeal cancer is that fast. PSA if you think there's something wrong with your body get thee to a doctor*. *even if you don't have insurance, you will not be denied treatment in Massachusetts. |

Jack really was the anchor in the Kozmetix.
He and I had a conversation last year about his stash of live Kozmetix cassettes. (they really do need to be heard) I hope Jack is having a laugh at my expense right now, knowing I thought his real name was Jack Rootoo. |

R.I.P. Jack. His memorial service is tonight and I am unable to attend.
Dang I would love to hear each and every one of those tapes he's got stashed somewhere. Last, but not least, big shame on the mods for not pinning this. Jack was a pretty awesome and memorable guitar player in this town. |

Holy shit. This is sad news, got to play with him with an old band in Worcester several years ago, super nice guy. My heart goes out to his family and friends. RIP, Jack. (I thought that was his real name too).

I agree - shame on the mods who should've pinned this (is it because Lou Miami and the Kozmetics were never as popular in Boston as the were in NYC and everywhere else they went?) RIP Jack. |

Very sad. I have fond memories of seeing Jack in the Kozmetix numerous times in Providence way back when.
Dang I would love to hear each and every one of those tapes he's got stashed somewhere. We have a couple of live things. One club show and a in-studio thing from WERS I think where they ran through all the cover songs they did. I will try to get them online if I can. |

I've promised that to Carm and I have been very bad to have forgotten to do it. Sadly my computer is on the sick list but hopefully Tom can do it for you. |
