It was not designed to irritate you, specifically. The Manson-Curb key, btw, is here: Another figure making the rounds in Laurel Canyon during the same period of time was a gent by the name of Mike Curb. At various times, Curb worked as a musician, composer, recording artist, film producer and record company executive. He also had the notable distinction of serving as the musical director on the notorious documentary feature Mondo Hollywood, which ostensibly chronicled the emerging Laurel Canyon/Sunset Strip scene. Filmed from 1965 through 1967 (well before the Manson murders), the film featured representatives from the Manson Family (Bobby Beausoleil), the Manson Family’s victims (Jay Sebring), the Freak troupe (Vito, Carl, Szou and Godo), and Laurel Canyon’s musical fraternity (Frank Zappa and his future wife, Gail Sloatman). It also featured acid guru Richard “Babawhateverthefuckitwasthathecalledhimself” Alpert. http://74.125.95.132/search?q=cache:3ZQkt6...lient=firefox-a There are other hidden and not-so-hidden allusions. "Two Silhouettes on the Shade" was a 1957 hit for the Rays. http://74.125.95.132/search?q=cache:2qB1KL...lient=firefox-a "Sympathy for the Devil" was, of course, played at Altamont. (Manson had links to the Church of Satan, btw.) Twenty Minute Fandangos: http://pics.librarything.com/picsizes/f6/d...34d414f4541.jpg More: [Timothy Leary crony Richard Alpert aka Baba Ram Dass: "Any way the mind blows".] More on the later career of Mike Curb: http://www.mikecurb.com/about/politics.cfm Forever Changes in that title refers to Love, the band which Bobby Beausoliel claimed was named after him. Twenty Minute Fandangos is an oblique reference to the song "In A Gadda Da Vida," which some have said signifies "In the Garden of Eden". Aka The Spahn Ranch? Funny thing is, just recently, I was browsing in among my grandfather's papers at the Biblioteche D'Ecole and happened across this interesting document [translated from the Latin]:
Diary of the Grand Duke D'Manna of the Provincial Duchy of Castile Di Sangra October 1st, 1406 I get the distinct feeling that my peasants do not love me. In fact, they fear and despise me. At least, that's what Sancho, my faithful servant of twenty years, has told me today. Shortly before I had him tortured and executed. I was merciful. The torture was only for three hours. And the blade used to dispatch him was reasonably sharp. As any fool can see, I am a good man at heart. So why don't they love me, damn it? I ask you, why? Is it the scornful but gentle way I wield my whip as I ride down the streets of my village on my spanking charger, leaving the broken bodies of their insolent and slow-witted children in my wake? Is it the stern but merciful way I lash at their eyes braying "Down, dogs, down," as their starving elders approach me for alms? Tomorrow I will ask the learned doctor for some advice. October 28th, 1406 Finally, after four weeks of systematic and quite ingenious torture, I have extracted from the learned doctor the answer to the question, "Why? Why don't they love me?" His reply—which he made with his last breath, through broken teeth? "You are arrogant and imperious." Arrogant and imperious? ME? The filthy curs! Do they dare to say that of ME? I will kill them all! November 2nd, 1406 I have reconsidered my drastic measures and have decided not to utterly destroy the village in which the ungrateful peasants continue to draw breath due solely to my beneficence. You might say I'm good that way. Instead, I have merely declared a crusade against the Antipope at Avignon. One of my consigliore began to protest that there is no Antipope at Avignon, and hasn't been for nearly forty years. His head now adorns a pike outside my castle walls. I have, however, spared his family, to work in my mercury mines. For no matter what they say, I am not a vindictive man. And yet the peasants still do not love me! Me--the Grand Duke D'Manna of the Provincial Duchy of Castile Di Sangra! |
