Shake the Faith was a Boston band around in the mid-80's featuring Casey Lindstrom (New Models) on vocals and guitar + Jesse (Von Kenmore) Mayer (Fingerpaint) on drums.. and some other dude.
I am aware that they had the two albums out (1987's self-titled & 2000's "Revival")... Did this band have anything else out? I think I may have a 7" they put out but I am not sure if the b-side was a non-lp track.. What y'all know about this band? PS Does Jesse post here anymore? k ![]() |

The bass player was Todd Erikson. He now lives outside of Portland Me. Casey lives locally with his wife Julie, and their 2 kids. He is not doing any music but he is still wikkid awesome.. STF put out a single"Wild World/Already Gone" and an EP with Brooks Wheylen's One Way Records ( a pretty good local indie as far as roster- also putting out Outlets, Bossstones, Ten Star General, John Felice, Last Stand and Left Nut stuff). We did all of out recording at Normandy Sound with Phil Greene, so it is prototype 80's bombast.( That's where the Hoods did "Reptlie Men" as well. Like The Hoods and The Cult we went from really interesting early-mig 80s "Big Rock" to kinda dumbed down "Cock Rock-G N'R style Riffage" later in the decade. Those later recordings were done for a deal with Polygram that fell apart and were later packged and released by One Way in 2000 and called "Revival". We did a reunion show at that time for the release and another about 4 years ago at The Living Room for a Randy Hien benifit. Not likely you'll see us again unless ther's a really compelling reason for it.

Oh...and BTW, K2- STF was always better live than in the studio. I have a bunch of decent quality video of shows ( 86-88) that I really should get transferred to disc. If you want to do something with them, let me know. I'm not on here as much as I used to be, but stil check in every couple of days..
PPS- I have a brand new band that is very K2 stalkworthy. I dunno what it's called yet and that's all I'm saying for now. This post has been edited by Jesse Vön Kenmöre: Apr 14 2008, 06:27 AM |

Awesome band. Liked 'em lots back in the 80's and loved 'em at the Randy Hien benefit (with the Neighborhoods).

Jesse,
Todd was always great to hang out with. You and the whole STF crew were the best. Last time I spoke with Todd was at a STF gig. I don't recall if it was a reunion gig or not. I think I was playing with the Eaters that night, cause I wouldn't have left the couch for any other reason. |

I never saw Shake the Faith, but I did see New Models once, and own their
Sight and Sound album. Did they (New Models) ever put out anything else? |

Shake The Faith was my fav.local band to see back in 88-89..the best thing about them was they were 3 short haired guys rocking as hard..if not harder that all the hair bands that had to play with...I remember one show at The Channel were it was a metal night and STF took the stage and everyone was like wtf?..wheres the big hair,,double kicks?...they broke into Wild World all left all the jaws on the floor..they were that good.and gained all the respect.I miss those shows at The Rat,Buns Narcissis..fuck, what a memory!..hey Jesse,I did a STF sign back when I went to art school and I think, gave it to Casey at a Channel show,,drunkin nights, don't remember much..

Cool.. both songs on that single are on the first EP.. I was at the reunion show in 04 and was blown away by the set.. I don't have good enough equipment to trasfer video to DVD but I can transfer the audio if you'd like... I put the two EPs on one CD last night and was listening to them in work today.. I wish I was around when that stuff was happening.. Looking forward to hearing the new band, I've pretty much been a fan of probably all of the bands I've heard you in.. OH! Speaking of.. how much Fingerpaint stuff was released? I never saw Shake the Faith, but I did see New Models once, and own their Sight and Sound album. Did they (New Models) ever put out anything else? From my collection, this is what I have by The New Models.. Permanent Vacation / Shattered Windows 7" The "Sight & Sound" EP: Strangers in Disguise / Listen / Say What / Just a Motion / Looking for a Reason I Can't Relate / Future Assassins from "Live at the Metro" No Control from "City History" Silent Running from "Sounds Eclectic" If anyone knows of more music by them, let me know too.. They had to have had more than 11 songs.. |

Fingerpaint relesed that "Stay/Crazy" 12" single and the video ( for V66 and MTV Basement Tapes) along with some other stuff on comps. It was that weird "Sounds Eclectic " that led to Casey and I hanging out at the release party and getting the idea that we should put anew band together as we were both done with the one's we were in. For the record , I was a HUGE fan of The New Models. I consider Casey Lindstrom , Dave Minehan and Dave Barton 3 of the best guitar playing front men ever to come out of Boston. They are all cut from a very similar cloth. Playing with him (and Todd as well) was a really great experience. That's for the kind words about the band from all of you. It was one of the better ones i have been lucky enough to be in.

Wow a reunion of you 4 yrs ago all @ a benefit, christ I wished I'd seen that! My favorite Boston band at the time(as I told you all those many times back then), did a drawing "Throw Me To The Wolves"(& various others), always inspiring in various ways were Shake The Faith to me as you three muskateers of rock were always my favorite people to talk to/see especially during those kinda "cross-over" times. |

Casey Lindstrom was one of those performers who had a certain onstage
star power, not unlike Dave Minehan had/has. Saw the New Models a bunch of times and Shake The Faith once at the Rat. Jesse- get working on that reunion thing, willya? |

Kev,
I found the recordings of Shake the Faith at The Living Room 8/2004. Just sent you a PM here and on MySpace. I put a quick mix together and made some mp3s. FYI-the feeds were post-live sound board. So anything the sound guy changed for the live mix affected the recording. Here's a link for those interested in downloading the files (47MB zip file): STF.zip Regards, Greg www.scredco.com |

True story. Back around the time STF were playing a lot, I was in a band from Northampton called The Sane. We were a power pop band that were very influenced by the Neighborhoods. It was around this time that my fascination with Boston rock really became huge. Around '88, I would say my three favorite bands were The Hoods, The Bags and Shake The Faith. Everytime one of those bands came to town we weaseled our way onto the bill. We were a four piece band with a singer who didn't play an instrument. As soon as I noticed my three favorite bands were all three piece bands, we kicked the singer out. Oddly enough, we immediatley became a much better band eventually having some pretty good success on the east coast. I actually kicked a guy out of my band to be more like the hoods, bags, stf. At the time my friends heart was broken, but years later he said he snuck into a club to check out one of our shows and agreed we were much better without him.

Plus we'd been through the whole record biz wringer...demoralizing. The thing I absolutely loved about playing with Shake was: a) very singular vision of what we wanted to do, even when what we wanted to do was kinda dumb b) because we were all so focused on what we were doing and absolutely believed whatever that was, was great, we absolutely didn't give a shit what other people thought of us c) we rocked and were extremely loud. Playing with Jessie and Todd, especially early on during the "crossover" and prior to growing (or trying to grow) long hair, was probably my favorite band experience. Echoing JVK, thanks for the kind words and even thinking of putting me into the same sentence with David M and Dave B. Back to work. |

I was way in to the New Models. I tried out for them when the bass player left. I was way out of my league. I was wicked nervous. they were wicked nice guys.
