Turns out I'm resigning too, totally piggybacking on T-Bone (not really) Options

So I've been moderating the mp3 forum for awhile. It's a lot of work. People don't keep up with their own dead links, and 75% of the time when they post mp3's they don't follow the correct format. I'd say about half the time when I pm folks to ask politely that they please repost following board guidelines, they don't bother to write back, or they do write back with a big harangue about how there shouldn't be rules man, and what an asshole I am for enforcing them.

None of that really bothered me because I felt like the forum was a good resource for folks to check out local music, and I was glad to be some small part of helping them do that.

But I've recently found out that some of the people on this board with whom I've hung out, traded music, and whom I would consider to be friends of mine, are the exact same people who have taken the opportunity to slag me pretty mercilessly whenever they have the chance to do so anonymously. I'm not talking about slagging my band, because that's the kind of thing that should happen on local music boards; that doesn't bother me in the least. I'm talking about people really going for the jugular about things that have to do with my health and my life. If these were just random people taking an opportunity to be jackasses, I'd have an easier time letting it role off my back. But knowing that some of these are people who have been to my house, gone to my shows, and with whom I have had pretty personal conversations, is upsetting to me.

I know tone can be hard to infer when reading a post; I realize that to some extent that this is just part of life-- people can be fake, your friends aren't really your friends, etc. etc. But as I get older and have more to do, I wonder why on earth am I spending time working for free for people who are nice to my face and will take any opportunity they can to cut me down the second they don't think they have to take responsibility for it? In any case, when I weigh the pluses and minuses of doing this job, I realize that it's a whole lot more trouble than it's worth. I'd been thinking about this a lot before finding out this weekend that T-Bone was resigning. Now that he is, I don't really see that much reason to stick around. So I'm resigning too. (God that sounds so self important!)

I'll still be around here occasionally, but a lot of my feelings about this place have really changed. Best to everyone.
