Technically speaking, we're all rule breakers, distributing free music like this. The RIAA would be raising hell for sure. But I'm curious to know, at this point in 2006, how many people are still making mixes soley from CDs and/or vinyl. Or if anyone even bothered to rip their vinyl when you can download a copy of the album so much faster (assuming you can find it).

It was Across the Universe-Rufus Wainwright. As I was burning the discs, I got a pop up message from Itunes that I was burning an excessive amount of downloaded music. ( I had never seen this before and had just updated the latest version of Itunes minutes before....if this is one of their latest "features," wish that I hadn't.) Was able to continue burning the discs after I removed that song. Took me a sec to even figure out which of the songs I did not have on CD. |

Easy way around that problem - burn one copy of the playlist, then just copy the disc you just made and not the playlist. Voila. |

Most of my stuff was from CDs, but about 20% came from other sources -- one song downloaded from eMusic; a couple downloaded from band sites; a couple that I audio hijacked from streams; and one from vinyl because that's the only source. I used Sound Soap to remove some pops and crackles from the vinyl.

DOH!! Actually, the fastest way to do what you wanted to do, rather than having to insert the original mix every time you wanted to make a copy, would have been to burn one copy of your mix, put it back into the computer, rip all the files to WAV, and then just burn THAT playlist over and over again. That actually would have been faster than mp3s, because it the computer doesn't have to decode the mp3 files to WAV as it burns. ![]() |

11 songs out of 50something. and i regret one because the sound quality was way shitty and i could've done it myself. the rest was stuff that i've either bought since i downloaded them or is out of print. i don't like having just mp3s of stuff.

Not that it's a big deal but did you rip those Cococoma and Headache City tracks from vinyl? For some reason my mp3 copies sound a little better. A little more crisp. |

I had to download about 1/3 of the songs because I do not yet have the capability (or even know how) to burn records on to cd's. The songs I downloaded were off itunes and I paid for every one.

A little over a third was downloaded, but all of it was from the band's websites or other authorized stuff. Oh, except the last song from the Twistin' Tarantalas, which I cut from a KEXP podcast.

I own one song (Lemonheads) and was shocked to see that I downloaded everything else. I felt momentarily guilty, then moved on. I might double my owned songs for the next mix, we'll see.

I count 3 downloaded songs on mine. 1 was paid for, 2 were offered free on band websites. I do a lot of downloading from blogs (and places like myspace, download.com and the Noise Board mp3 forum), but I've never done peer-to-peer file sharing.

All of my mix was downloaded. Not sure why anyone cares one way or the other.

my husband gave me shit about the 2 songs I didn't already own. he was like, it's a mix tape, it's supposed to be stuff you already have. I was like, nuh-uh, it's supposed to be songs I enjoy and want others to hear! I don't hardly own any music....I don't think that should keep me from sharing songs I really enjoy.

My mix has two downloaded songs on it-- they were both free from websites devoted to mandolin music. Everything else is from CDs that I own.
