Really fun mix! Cute theme, too. Got me thinking about the bands I saw in college, which of course made me want to get into a time machine and see those shows again. I haven't heard Lou Miami & the Kozmetix in ages, so that track was particularly fun for me. Great tunes by Atlantics, Prince, and Graham Parker. I also don't own any Captain Beefheart, so that's a treat. And of course, "Better Off Dead" is one of the best songs of all time. Plus cute photos. What more could you want?

Great mix, Tom, thanks!
NRBQ was one of my first non-arena rock shows - they played a private party at Whaleback Ski Lodge - I was in 9th grade, I think. I love the Talking Heads song (Simply Red hit many years later), and The Atlantics song is great, too! |

Wikkid pissa mix! I'm jealous cuz not only did I not attend college but I didn't get to see all but one of these bands. Didn't much like the Captian Beefheart track but really dug the rest. Standouts were Mundanes, Buzzcocks, Secret Affair, Cheap Trick, Atlantics... crap really the rest. Plus I've always loved the NRBQ song. That being said how can anyone wearing red suspenders looks that serious?

This mix could be re-entitled as "Bands I Was Too Busy Sucking on a Pacifier to Go See"... agh! This is a really nice mix with a lot of songs I haven't heard and some I'm actually having trouble tracking down. For instance, I really liked that Pastiche song but I can't find anything on AllMusic about them and so I'm not sure what their discography is like. I also really enjoyed Pearl Harbor & the Explosion (light fare considering their band name..), Rubber Rodeo and Robin Lane. I was sort of dreading the Prince song but it turned out rather good, so I was relieved. Thanks Tom, great stuff here.

Had heard some of these bands before but hadn’t caught most of them live, was a bit before my time. Aside from the Neighborhoods and Mission of Burma that I’ve seen a few times each but all in recent years. Very cool theme for a mix. Out of all of these, what were some of the most memorable shows?
When the Graham Parker tune came on, assumed it was who I was listening to b/c the style sounded similar to The Figgs. Made sense that he would have them to play on tour with him. Anyway, great song. I really dig that Robin Lane tune, have never heard her before. |
