I just received word from a reliable source that Jo Jo Laine passed on the evening of the 29th. If you'd never met her or didn't know about her, this post won't mean a lot. For those of us her knew her, yet another link to Rock's more glamoruos times is forever lost. Bye Jo Jo.

Wow, very sad...She turned up at the Abbey fairly recently and it was the first I'd met her.
Please PM me if anyone has Helaine's number-- I know they were close and I want to send condolences, |

What on earth? Was she sick? Jo Jo had been fighting the good fight for a long time. Anyone who was lucky enough to meet her in recent years were meeting a gal who was on borrowed time. I naturally cannot detail any of her troubles on a public message board, but let's just day we were all on our own sort of standby. |

Very sorry to hear of the loss of your friend. For those of us who didn't know her, could you fill us in on her contribution to the Boston scene? I understand if there's some things you don't want to make public, but would be interested to hear more about her.
Again, my condolences. |

I understand if there's some things you don't want to make public, but would be interested to hear more about her. Again, my condolences. I just found this on Wikipedia. Wow, she had quite a life. If this is the same person? "Jo Jo Laine (formerly Joanna Hines) is an American singer, model and actress, and the former wife of Denny Laine of The Moody Blues and Wings. Laine performed with her own band, called Jo Jo Laine & The Firm, until 1985 when Jimmy Page established The Firm. She has also recorded with Wings and Sting and Andy Summers of The Police performed on "Hulk" and "Dancing Man". In 1986 Laine contacted Rolling Stones producer Jimmy Miller via Carol Price, whose husband, Jim Price, toured with the Rolling Stones in the early seventies. Miller and Laine arranged to meet in Boston at the nightclub Avalon. At that time Laine managed a band called The Mannish Boys. When the Mannish Boys project imploded, Miller and Laine teamed up to produce their version of the Gerry Goffin and Carole King classic "I'm Into Something Good". The record was released on Boston Rock & Roll Anthology Volume 10. Part of the recording was done as a class at the Berklee College of Music though the basic tracks were recorded at the legendary Normandy Sound in Warren, Rhode Island. The album The Best Of Jo Jo Laine will be released in 2006." |

The band had a gent named Gas who was the drummer in an early incarnation of The Pretenders. The simplist way to sum up the time she was living here was this: LONDON. London, and all things cool about it then and before. She was a living link to what a lot of us had on our walls or on our turntables. She leaves behind 3 children, a grandchild, many friends, and her best mate Helanie, who's now left to carry the torch in memory of those good old bad old days.... |

I had the pleasure of hanging out with her a few times in the late 80's, very sweet, very funny and I think I had a bit of a crush on her as well. That's very sad to hear as I recently wondered what she was up to.
I'd seen the Mannish Boys a couple of times, one of the guys looked like a Glam version of Benny Hill. |

The 29th is Denny's birthday too. I never met her but I was a big Wings fan and knew a little bit about her story. That is sad.

Gas (Gaz?) is a friend of friend, lives in NYC now.
A bunch of us had coffee together back in July, and JoJo's name came up. In Gaz's words,JoJo was "the love of (his) life" (He knew she was terminally ill). Never met Ms.Laine but have always heard she had a zest for life. |

I believe I met Jo Jo through the whole Phil Greene, Normandy, STF connection. I think we played with The Mannish Boys at the Channel, or somewhere..... Sorry for your loss Boby, and all who were close to her.

I read on the McCartney board that she had fallen down stairs and was in a coma in addition to her fight with cancer? That is truly awful.
I wonder if her album will still be released this year. |

Please PM me if anyone has Helaine's number-- I know they were close and I want to send condolences, Helaine does not have access to a computer at present, so she asked me to post this for her. She will be flying to England on Wed to be with Jo Jo's children. In addition, she said that Jo Jo was beautiful, generous, vivacious, and had a unique personality that could never be replaced by anyone. BTW, Brett I PM’d you about Helanie’s phone number. |
