I just received word from a reliable source that Jo Jo Laine passed on the evening of the 29th. If you'd never met her or didn't know about her, this post won't mean a lot. For those of us her knew her, yet another link to Rock's more glamoruos times is forever lost. Bye Jo Jo.

The band had a gent named Gas who was the drummer in an early incarnation of The Pretenders. The simplist way to sum up the time she was living here was this: LONDON. She leaves behind 3 children, a grandchild, many friends, and her best mate Helanie, who's now left to carry the torch in memory of those good old bad old days.... |

I had the pleasure of hanging out with her a few times in the late 80's, very sweet, very funny and I think I had a bit of a crush on her as well. That's very sad to hear as I recently wondered what she was up to.
I'd seen the Mannish Boys a couple of times, one of the guys looked like a Glam version of Benny Hill. |

Gas (Gaz?) is a friend of friend,lives in NYC now.
A bunch of us had coffee together back in July,and JoJo's name came up. In Gaz's words,JoJo was "the love of (his) life" (He knew she was terminally ill). Never met Ms.Laine but have always heard she had a zest for life. |

I believe I met Jo Jo through the whole Phil Greene, Normandy, STF connection. I think we played with The Mannish Boys at the Channel, or somewhere..... Sorry for your loss Boby, and all who were close to her.

I read on the McCartney board that she had fallen down stairs and was in a coma in addition to her fight with cancer? That is truly awful.
I wonder if her album will still be released this year. |
