I listened to this mix first because it included two songs that have been on my mind lately. "Sky High" and "Hot Child In the City". Every once in a while I stumble onto the infomercial for 70's Music Explosion from Time Life - Complete Compilation of 70s Hits and wind up watching it to see the short performance clips. Anyway "Sky High" is one of the clips I stop for. I played this song in the car with my nine year old daughter and now every time we go for a ride she makes me play it. It's kinda funny that she is about the same age as I was when this song first came out. I know it's pretty sappy as is most of the stuff on this mix but being a child of the 70's I have a soft spot for a lot of this A.M. radio pop. Another stand out track for me was "Ebony Eyes" I had a real blast listening to this mix.

I opened up the box and out pored all these cd's. My eye first went to the fancier covers but then I read your song list and I had to hear yours first.

This was my preteen years soundtrack. This was AM radio in the early 70's! Tell Me Something Good, Radar Love, Rock the Boat man this is why radio was so freakin fun.

I love it.

I'm not in this group, but I must express my extreme appreciation for your mix. I have an enormous amount of '70s pop (including most - if not all of - those tunes), and it does me good to know I'm not alone! Ebony Eyes was my favorite non-KISS tune in 1977! It never fails to take me right back to my days of living in Erie, PA when I was just beginning to really discover music.

I was rushing out to the gym last night and didn't take care of commentary. Basically, these songs are songs that I remembered hearing on the radio as a little girl, sitting in the back of the station wagon on a family trip, most of which still churn up some kind of twinge deep down inside when I hear them...I don't know if it's the chord progressions or what, I'm not a musician, but, they make me feel physically affected. I also tried to mix in some stuff that was a bit heavier, I seem to recall listening to the radio in the 70's and hearing a cheesy song followed by Hendrix or Alice Cooper. These days it seems only Connecticut or New Hampshire classic stations still prescribe to this style of programming. I opened with "hello, it's me" even though it isn't one of my faves, because it's kind of me talking to the board - I thought it would be funny. I closed with I'm sticking with you, again to send my message to the board. The only song not actually from the 70's was Red Kross, Play my song, and that's just one of my alltime favorite songs by a modern group that channels the feeling of that era really well. I'm glad that some of you enjoyed my mix, I had a bunch of other songs planned and couldn't find half of my CD's, that I thought were in my car. Some of the things left off for next time were Roxy Music, Bowie, Rolling Stones.

This mix was like being in my 1979 Pinto wagon and rocking out to WRKO.

The only thing missing was Dale Dorman. And the Mr Jaws skit.

Suhweet.

I consider myself a pretty bright guy but I didn't get the reference until you used it for the title of this thread. Oof!

I know this feeling exactly, and your mix captures it so well, even if the songs of my childhood I remember best are slightly later. But I do have a faint memory of sitting in the wood paneled station wagon with my dad and watching him jam out to the horn section on "Sir Duke".

Thanks especially for "Tell Me Something Good" and "Rock the Boat". I believe you mentioned earlier that you were afraid people woldn't dig them, but they are my favorite tracks. Nice work!

tell me something good for the use of the vocoder (spelling? is that what they are using?) on the tell me, tell me, tell me parts...it's such a brilliant song.

I really enjoyed this mix. There were a few jarring moments - "No Fun" sounded especially weird in the midst of all the shiny happy pop, but overall I really enjoyed this. Most of these somgs reminded me of the summer after 8th grade, which was a great summer for me....

I'm pretty sure that the effect in "Tell Me Something Good" is a talk box, a la Frampton Comes Alive.

Like the other old folks on here have said, this brings me back to jr. high. A really fun bunch of songs.

If I could have sung a crappy acoustic version of I'm Not In Love back then like I can now I probably would have gotten a girlfriend a lot sooner.

I tried listening to this CD this morning, but for some reason everytime I pressed play, my discman kept switching to AM Radio ... and my discman doesn't even have a tuner!

No, but seriously ... great mix, great theme, and great theme song. My only problem with it is that with almost every song on here, especially "Hello It's Me," I am inexorably drawn to hit the "repeat" button - so, suffice to say, I still haven't even gotten thru the whole mix.
