Here's the appendix to my mix:

I wanted to give everyone a different experience than the three minute pop song we're all used to. So I decided to string a bunch of long songs together. All the elements of the music I love the most are in here: novel sounds and approaches to sound, pretty melodies, ripping solos, amazing drum performances, and a sense of boundaries being stretched and rules being broken.

The first tune is actually an unaccompanied solo by Keith Jarrett on the Fender Rhodes. He never played the instrument again after leaving Miles' band. It's jazz, but it's not your momma's jazz.

The second tune is from the same set at The Cellar Door in 1970. You get to hear John McLaughlin at his absolute best; and see why he is considered by many to be one of the greatest guitar players of all time. After a long drum solo by Jack Dejohnette, we segue into Brian Eno's pastoral "The Big Ship," which I intended as a break after 21 minutes of hellishly aggressive music.

Then we have Can, my favorite band and my favorite drummer. How many bands have ever used dynamics and repetition in such a hypnotic and exciting way? These are probably my two favorite Can tunes, but they really only showcase one side of the band. There is much more aggressive Can music out there. They are inexhaustible and unstoppable.

After the long Can tunes I make a complete left turn by throwing the Television tune in there. This has my favorite guitar solo of all time. It's just so beautiful, thoughtful and elegant. I also like taking Television out of the "punk" context and putting them where they belong, alongside great, unique psychedelic-esque music.

Now you've all probably heard the Jimi Hendrix tune. But it's on here because this is what initially got me interested in this sort of music, this sort of feeling.

Anyhow I'm glad to hear that some of you have enjoyed it. I certainly have enjoyed yours and will be commenting on all of them soon.
