I love hearing stories like this when people are surprised someone died....

Well its surprising to me because Alpo had been sober for years. I didn't know he had started up with that shit. He seemed so strong last time I was with him when we were in the Eaters together. Sad and disappointed when anyone relapses to addiction of any kind. And now this happens. Sucks!!!

Alpo had been sober for years, far as I know too. There is nothing on this thread that prooves otherwise. People die of all kinds of things. All it says here that's a fact is that he's gone. It does suck either way.

Thanks for saying this. It's sad when the cause of ones untimely death is assumed. As I mentioned earlier here, Alpo looked terrifically healthy and clean the last time I saw him.

I'm not into spreading rumours. He fell off the wagon and he OD'd......Let that be a lesson to others.

I wasn't referring to you exclusively. I also did not mean to infer that anyone was spreading rumors. Merely, that his cause of death was assumed OD.

Is this a fact that he OD'd?

Carm, I got 2 RELIABLE phone calls telling me he had overdosed. Apparently, he had relapsed over a year ago, around the time The Eaters went to Spain.

When I first started to get into Boston rock way back in '78 The Real Kids were gods! They came to Wormtown to spend a weekend at Circe's. This is very sad news. RIP Alpo.

Helanie has spoken to a person that is close to the Alpo roommate. No one knows the cause of death they are performing an autopsy today. Quoting Helanie, " please no more shitty rumors have respect for a great artist, and we are not CSI”.

I never got to see this band enough... I only saw them once 'back in the day,' when they played a frat party at Northeastern University. Late January/early February '79

Well I hope that it turns out that he didn't die of an OD. You can say that it doesn't matter how, but it really does. The 2 people that told me were as close to him as anyone I know. I'm just so very sad that he's died. He was a gas to play with and to hang with. Great sense of humor.

Hi everyone,
I just found out that the obituary will be in the Salem Evening News tomorrow or the next day.
His father is having him brought home to Peobody after the autopsy is done.
The wake will be at Conway Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home in Peobody.
I will post further info with details when I get them.
Friday is a possibility for the wake and Saturday services.
The family welcomes all to attend.
Please, out of respect, all further comments on his cause of passing should be refrained from.
He died in his sleep. Leave him in peace. I am sure there are plenty of good stories of experiences you all have had in his life and through his music, keep those coming.
RIP. It means Rest In Peace, remember that.

You know how fond of you I am, B-loo, but I've got to disagree with you on this. It really doesn't matter how one dies. It's how one lived. We are all gonna check out at some point, and I, personally, would like to be remembered for how I lived, not the particulars of how I die.
Alpo will always be fondly remembered as a great musician who loved playing music as much as we loved watching and listening, and, as you mention, with a great sense of humor. My opinion of a dearly departed just doesn't change because of the circumstances surrounding their death. I think it's sad when the living feel cheated and angry because of how a loved one died rather than savor memories of the larger part of their existence.

Just my two cents, for what it's worth... 2 whole pennies.

R.I.P.

A really nice guy. A couple years ago, the last night of the Little Steven / Battle of the Garage Bands thing - at Roxy. I came walking in by myself, wearing a "the real kids' t-shirt and him and Rick Corracio came over to me and started up a conversation. Wanted to know if I was "somebody" which I took to mean: was I a musician they might not know. Nope, just a Boston music fan. Deterred them nonetheless that I was not a 'somebody". The both stuck around awhile longer asking me abour Real Kids, Lyres, DMZ, Eaters shows I had seen in the past. Real friendly to Mr. Just a Boston Music Fan and it left an impression on me.

So the whole thing about how he might have died and some of the earlier comments here bother me a bit. I'm a clean and sober guy myself, for a little more than 15 years and I know a few things from personal experience about addiction, including relapse. I hope to die sober and not have to suffer the pains that go with using. But if I don't die clean and sober and it is somehow related to my using - please don't say "that's too bad" and "sorry to hear he went that way".

We all got to go sometime - what the hell difference does it make what caused it?

I might die from cancer,
could be diabetes,
or that damn bus that gets me when I cross the street without looking,
maybe some asshole with a hatchet...
Who knows....

Someone please tell me which are the really great ways to die which leave your friends, family ands fans happy? "Cause that's the way I wanna go.

We'll miss ya Mr. Axeman, R.I.P.
