QUOTE(Guest_Apollo Creed @ Oct 20 2005, 09:06 PM) These joints all look sketchy, but I find the picture of The Smuggler's Cove particularly disturbing. It's difficult to imagine a time when that place was ever open. According to smcd it still IS open. I would say it is a winner in the "most likely to have Thunderbird and Wild Irish Rose on the wine list" category. ![]() |

I'm not a dude. I'm a dudette. I"m sure there are better steak tips elsewhere........I guess I'm just prejudice because I love my brother's cooking. But the tips are good. I mainly go there just to visit him. Just saying....for a divey place...........the food is really pretty good. Where is that Butcher Boy? |

I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if bum wines were on the menu. |

There is more consensus on the meaning of Chargoggagoggmanchauggagoggchaubunagungamaugg, but it turns out the consensus is wrong. In the 1920s, a reporter for the Webster Times, Lawrence J. Daly, wrote that it was a Nipmuck Indian word meaning "You fish on your side, I fish on my side and nobody fishes in the middle." That stuck even though Daly confessed repeatedly that he had made the whole thing up.
The real meaning, said Paul Macek, a historian in Webster, a community of about 17,000 just northwest of where Connecticut, Rhode Island and Massachusetts intersect, is "English knifemen and Nipmuck Indians at the boundary or neutral fishing place." |
