If there are people who post here that are known to both board members, and board staff to be regularly stalking, crazy, obsessive, and just generally creepy in their interactions with others, especially though PM's and unwanted private contact - shouldn't those people be made known to the public at large on the board?
I think we need a Noise Board Stalker "PM Offender Registry". Or at least, enable the ignore feature for all users so people don't have to deal with that kind of creepy shit. |

Then I would encourage you to have these conversations in a private setting with me or lusting_kay.
And in fact we have had more than one of these complaints handled in a private manner and have done our best to take care of them. You may even remember a certain member being banned for this exact action. |

You may even remember a certain member being banned for this exact action. And that's what I'm asking. why does it need to be private? If someone comes on here and violates board policy, and stalks, intimidates, or otherwise bothers people on here, why should you (as moderators) withhold that info from the rest of the board? It's almost like you're protecting the crazy people by keeping it all quiet, to the detriment of the board. Public humiliation is the best way to deal with obsessives who sneak around stalking people. I'm not saying you need to reveal their "real life" name. Just let people know that, in general "don't pay attention to so & so's PMs" would probably kill any momentum the nutball is getting out of it. |

Because it's the reasonable, responsible way to handle these situations. There's a big diference between confronting a situation to try and get a reasonable resolution and making a spectacle out of the whole. We do these things in private because we have access to a lot more of the information on the topic, and because there's almost always a second side to the story to consider. Besides, first you're talking about users coming out and starting threads about it, but now it's "mods shouldn't withhold this information". |
