Dear Friends and Enemies of Midriff Records,
It's June. The beginning of Summer '07. The kids are playing outside well passed their curfew, talking to the vagrants and hobos who come out full force in the nice weather. The teens and young adults are graduating, fully unprepared by their public and state school educations to begin a new chapter of their lives. Private school and privileged kids slurp designer iced coffee and make repugnant demands of the waitstaff and help. And guys in Hawaiian shirts and girls whose short-shorts proudly proclaim "SLUT" or "TEASE" across the backside broil carcasses on the hibachi while double fisting cheap beer and resting paper plates on their beer guts. There is quite a bit going on to celebrate the beginning of summer. Midriff Records is no exception. Here's what we got. The long over due video for The Beatings' track "Feel Good Ending" is officially done and up on the web. "Feel Good Ending" was the first single from the bands "Holding on to Hand Grenades" full length record, that Midriff released last year. It's a fun romp featuring most of the band attempting to harness success and inner peace with the help of a motivational speaker. The video was directed by Clayton Keiber (who also shot Eldridge Rodriguez's "Stillborn in New Jersey" and "You Get What You Want" videos) and features EEE Adams (of Boston's Rock City Crime Wave) in a large role. The Beatings have begun work on their follow-up to "Holding on to Hand Grenades", so keep an ear to the ground for that. They also have some shows coming up. Dates can be found at the Midriff Records website and The Beatings site ( www. midriffrecords.com and www.thebeatings.com respectively). The video for "Feel Good Ending" is currently up on the bands myspace page ( myspace.com/thebeatings) and Youtube.com. The Eldridge Rodriguez videos can be found at his my space ( http://www.myspace.com/eldridgerodriguez ) and Youtube.com, and all three videos can be found at http://www.myspace.com/midriffrecords. All videos will soon be joining the Scuba video for "Gary Powers Spy Plane" at www.midriffrecords.com. Eldridge Rodriguez will be releasing an online only Ep of new material titled "... And the Thunder Chief" on June 26, 2007. The collection features five new tracks that range from straight up acoustic numbers to ambient influenced torch songs, to experimental tracks that some might find challenging. The Ep is only being offered at the Midriff site (www.midriffrecords.com). In other E.R. news, Rodriguez has officially fired his backing band, The New Jerseys, for what he has described as "insubordination" and "stealing his stash" and has begun working with The Spanish Armada (whose full length Midriff will be putting out in the fall of '07 - http:/www.myspace.comthenewspanisharmada). The New Jerseys had been Rodriguez's band throughout the recording of the recently released "This Conspiracy Against Us" record. The Spanish Armada features Crawford Buckley, L. Tiburon Pacifico and Dan Parlin. The new arrangement has been playing out regularly. Upcoming performances include June 14, 2007 at Great Scott in Allston/Boston and July 7, 2007 at Lit Lounge in NYC. Additional shows and details will be available at the Midriff site and E.R.'s myspace.com page. Also, if you haven't yet, check out the new self titled full length release by Scuba that we just released. Info can be found at http://www.myspace.com/scubaix and scuba-band.com. If the following links don't sway you, you're probably already deaf: http://blogcritics.org/archives/2007/05/10/171940.php http://www.weeklydig.com/music/articles/scuba/ http://theedge.bostonherald.com/musicNews/...rticleid=199096 As always, our bands are always playing and putting out. Check out the Midriff site for updates on The Beatings, Scuba, Eldridge Rodriguez, Pending Disappointment, Get Help, Kudgel, La Faccia Brutta, The Spanish Armada, Strikes Again!, or EEE Adams. All discs can be purchased through the site, I-tunes or CDBaby.com, and tour and show info is as close to up to the minute as you know. If you are looking for info or press on Midriff or our bands, shoot us an email, or google us (we're there). Keep an eye out for our new logo. We will be presenting it later this month in the form of a T-shirt design... it's bitchin'. So enjoy these, the first temperate days of summer. Soon it will be so hot you'll be begging your maker to take your life. Thanks for the support. |
