Here's how you play:
Describe a defining event or moment in your life that brought you to where you are now. For me, it was reading a Pushkin poem in Iowa City, just a short love poem, but very powerful, and it convinced me to go after a girl I had been indifferent towards, but now she was the same to me, and she got under my skin. This was in Iowa, but she loved Boston, and took me there, eventually--I considered myself more of a new yorker--and that's how I ended up in Boston. Go! |

Probably a mild case of ADD or lack of discipline depending on who you talk to.

It was a hot night in Phoenix. I was playing poker in the back room of this little dive. At about 4:AM the guy across from me thought he had me beat, but he was out of money. He threw in the deed to a condo in the metro-west suburbs of Boston, plus a wife and a dog. We laid out our hands. I had a royal straight flush. He had aces high.

here where?
where we live? where we work? 1) JP - i moved there with an old boyfriend when we found a dog friendly landlord that loved dobermans. coincindentally, i had also spent time in JP as a juevinile deliquent teenager. 2) i had a big come to jesus moment regarding where to work. spent many hours walking old dog thinking and trying to figure out what to do. came up with wanting to work with cancer patients in some capacity because an old dear friend had passed away from breast cancer at the age of 25. i needed to work at a place that made me feel like i was making a difference for someone else, otherwise i'll just stay in bed when the alarm goes off. the place where i work had treated her well. coincidentally, another friend worked here and gave me a referral. |

I was faced with a decision:
Should I continue being a generally happy surfer dude in paradise with no career prospects, or should I move to the other side of the continent to engage in exhaustive study in the hope that my career prospects would improve and that I wouldn't despise the resulting career? I chose poorly. |

Working at Big Lots as a stocker and talking to my friends about the Seinfeld episode where George does the opposite and things work out for him. We decided to try it and I moved to Boston the next Saturday.
