It is rather puzzling, really must've been a slow news day. What with the boring old Iraq war, the presidential race, stock market, etc. Boy, nothing really happening, let's follow some story about a b-list actor.

Oscar Nominees aren't generally considered B-list.

I don't know what the big mystery is...this sort of stuff always happens when an up and coming celebrity with a bright future bites it at a young age. Part of it is that it puts your own mortality into focus. And whenever a cute guy dies, i think it's a bit sadder for the world as there are too many ugly men out there.

I remember when River Phoenix died i was affected by it. he seemed to be out of the norm of stars out there (an anti-Tom Cruise almost). Maybe this latest generation saw Heath Ledger the same way.

IF someone feels sad about Heath, i'm not going to judge them.

I'm not a Heath fan either...I don't think I've seen any of his movies (maybe a little of one), but I think it's just part of the human condition to be curious about people and their deaths especially when they seemed young and vibrant.

I've only seen one movie he was in - Lords of Dogtown. He was pretty good in it. I don't feel any sympathy for his death because I didn't know him personally. But from what I've read, his acting in the upcoming Batman movie is fantastic, and it really sucks if they have to replace someone that good in later movies.

And from everything out there I've read about him, he wasn't an asshole. He was a pretty good guy, and his death was apparently an accident.

Considering most of the people here cracking on his death were all broken up over Mr. Butch, I find it rather ironic. Flipper is the only consistent one here.

That's right. I don't feel any sympathy for Heath. Didn't feel any for Mr. Butch either.

I find it funny that a few hipster tards are cracking on Heath's death when they were all sad and grieving over and annoying, stinky homeless guy.

You find it funny that some folks are emotionally unaffected by the death of a stranger while being emotionally affected by the death of an acquaintance.

An acquaintance is a guy from work or the neighborhood that you go for a beer with, or to a game on occasion. A smelly guy that mooches 2 or 3 beers out of your 30 pack every time you're leaving Blanchards is probably not an acquaintance.

I think his death is tragic given his youth, the fact he was a young father and also the fact that he had so much talent. I suppose my thread is more about the media's obession. Anyway, no big deal....they were obessed with Anna Nichole too (CNN went for that story completely). Just the nature of the 24 hour news cycle I suppose.

Exactly right.

So many of the "I knew and loved Mr. Butch" people were nothing more than pretentious Allston douchefucks who thought "hanging with" a crazy homeless black gave them some kind of street cred/flavor.

In reality, none of these people were anything more than spectators of Mr. Butch.

They might as well have been strolling through the Franklin Park Zoo and pretending to be friends with all the chimps, panthers, and flamingos. (Though all of these probably smelled better, and had better manners than Mr. Butch)

Exactly, like they're some kinda urban mechanic, who thinks they know their way around the city, bragging to friends back home they puffed a roach with this crazy black dude with a leather. Pussies like that are irritating.

The Olsen Twins dying in a mutual suicide pact. Now that would be a story worthy of 24/7 media saturation.

Totally. Comparing this kid to John Lennon is not only disgustingly insulting, they are not even equitable situations.

John Lennon, a cultural icon, being gunned down in public is a tragedy.

Heath Ledger, a mediocre actor, snorting too many crushed sleeping pills and not waking up is tabloid pablum.

Unless they made a taboo lesbo porn...nothing that the Olsons do would interest me, including dying.

Obviously, I am not comparing him to John Lennon, however, the media are making his death seem like it is on the same level.

Just out of curiosity, I decided to Google Heath Ledger and John Lennon together. Sure enough, here is an article comparing the outpouring of grief with Ledger's death to that of not only Lennon but Marilyn Monroe. Yikes. I honestly didn't even know Ledger's name before last week. If someone told me he was in "Brokeback Mountain" I would have known who he was but the guy wasn't exactly a household name.
