Unbelievable. That's terrible and tragic news. Much love to the family and close friends.
"No man is an island, entire of itself; every man is a piece of the continent, a part of the main. If a clod be washed away by the sea, Europe is the less, as well as if a promontory were, as well as if a manor of thy friend's or of thine own were: any man's death diminishes me, because I am involved in mankind, and therefore never send to know for whom the bells tolls; it tolls for thee." I could have met jonerik at a show if i hadn't been so shy. Now, i really regret it.
But it appears you don't have to know someone personally to miss them when they are gone I'm so sorry for your loss, Scott. Best wishes to you and your family, and strength and support to those who loved him.... which, it seems, is all of us. |

Oh my god, what a shock...My heart goes out to Jon's family, bandmates, friends and Izumi. There will certainly be a void on the Noiseboard for me. It always gave me a sense of security to see the news articles he cited by The Associated Press and Reuters - I appreciated the intelligent dialog. I also learned about classic country music from him, and, as many others have mentioned, the quirky Japanese culture.
RIP Jon. Love, strength and courage to those who loved him. |

I am completely shocked. I never met him but I used to love his insight into so many things that I was interested in too. Just this past week I asked him about some country artist and he gave me some suggestions about some other country artist. Even though just yesterday I stated to Jody that it "is only a message board", it clearly is something much bigger because I feel awful. I am so sorry for his family and loved ones and of course those who knew him. Bless you.

QUOTE I'm thankful for my family, and especially for my mother's improved health. I'm thankful for Izumi. I'm thankful that I have a decent job. I'm thankful for good friends. I'm thankful for good health. And I'm thankful that I live in such a great country. |

I never met Jon personally, I did see his band a couple times but that's before I knew who he was and that he was in it so unfortunately I never got a chance to meet him in person. I loved his voice of calm reason on the board, and was always touched by his stories about his relationship with Izumi. To Scott and others who were close to him, I am very sorry for your loss.

I never even met Jon Erik in person, yet I still felt like I had been kicked in the stomach at hearing this news. We exchanged emails a few times and I enjoyed reading his posts here, especially about his trips to Japan. Such a nice guy and a real class act.
Scott, I’m so sorry for your loss. My thoughts are with you and your family and all Jon Erik’s friends – of which there are obviously many. |
