I'm a believer in the whole idea of greater knowledge creating harmony amongst the religions. Put up the tree, the menorah, the broom (that's the Kwanzaa symbol, isn't it? jumping over the broom or something?) encourage people to investigate what it all means.

If you put up a kwanzaa symbol you might as well put up a festivus pole. They're both made-up holidays.

and to some people the birth of some kid named Jesus is a made up holiday. if people celebrate it and it's semi-reasonable, put the symbol up.

Kwanzaa is a lot dumber, isn't based on any cultural tradition, and doesn't seem quite as much fun. Sounds to me like a celebration of segregation.

That may be, but it doesn't change the fact that all holidays are made up and in some way or another meaningless towards one group or another.

More holidays in America should be like St Patrick's Day and Cinco De Mayo. There are a lot of parties, everyone gets wasted, and nobody really cares what the original intent of the day was.

I used to work with a couple of guys from africa. I asked one of them if he celebrated kwanzaa. He said that he never heard of it until he moved here and thought it was the stupidest thign he ever heard of. He said everyone he knows celebrates christmas like normal people.

Don't let the NAACP here about this. I smell a march by the "community" coming.

QUOTE(me_ @ Dec 4 2007, 01:45 PM) *

The CHRISTMAS tree is there to celebrate the day that CHRIST was born.

This is why I find Christians getting all riled up about Christmas and Christmas trees so funny.

Not only do Christmas trees have nothing to do with Christ, the dude wasn't even born at Christmas. The only reason Christmas is celebrated in December is that it's a holdover from Pagan Solstice traditions, as is the stupid tree. Kinda ironic.

Also, Kwanzaa is pure bullshit.

There was a really funny pic in Boston.com of Sal DiMasi watching some rabbi lite this huge menorah. To me, Sal was like: when is this Yid gonna finish with these candles , so I can go out to the North End for some pasta and red wine.....Hurry up, will ya!

Is bedwetting part of this vigilance? You seem to have that locked down.
