I know it is just promo/hype stuff, but it is too bad they couldn't have played more of a real concert. By this, I mean maybe about 6 more tunes (with some stuff from the 80's). For what it is worth, Bono sounds in good voice and the band are very spot on with what they play. Some of those tunes are alright. The host was basically pleading for people to support U2 and real music. It seemed a bit desperate.

I came back in to hear the concert and missed the very end and the concert was over also-luckily they repeat it about 100 times a week.

I love Bobby Flay.

Seriously. And to hire Sway from f'n MTV to host such an exclusive show? Dude doesn't even really have a job right now, plus, he was/is always a terrible personality. I actually feel kinda bad for the people that went to this show...def not some sort of "tribute" as Bono kept saying. Just another promo bit like any other business crap. They kept saying "number 1 album in blah blah countries" and "please support U2 if you appreciate the music business"...what? Would have been off the hook if Kenny Powers fuckin hosted it.

Sway's final bit of came across as basically a sales pitch for this tour and the major corporate music industry (the music industry is probably praying that this tour gives them something of a boost). Essentially, he was saying, "I know the economy really, really sucks, the music business is in self destruction mode, and popular culture is garbage, but reach in to your wallet and give a little to a band from your youth who gave you so much".

Do the Stones still show up unannouced at random, small clubs and jam while on tour?

That's the way to do this kind of shit.

A friend of mine caught them by chance at Club Baby Head down in Providence back in like '89 or so and talks about it to this day.

Dude, it felt like he was panhandling for U2. No? Just remember everyone "number 1 album in blah blah countries, and please support U2 and the record business." Truly awful and kinda insulting to U2. They didn't need to say stuff like that? They are Ufucking2! This was a sell-out show...and I'm not talking capacity.

The Stones must be done with touring by now. I know they played New Haven' Toad's Place before their Steel Wheel's tour (August of 1989?). Of course, they played Sir Morgan's Cove in Worcester too.

I remember this show. They kept touting that "Steel Wheels" was the number 1 album in several countries. It was hosted by Dan Cortese.
