This was shot in Providence. I can see a whole bunch of buildings and street I recognize in the commercial I saw during the All Star game and the trailer in here: http://disney.go.com/disneypictures/underdog/

It's really too bad that someboby didn't get eaten by a dog on the set.
Unfortunate also that it was NOT set in Iraq. |

Duh it's not about the movie but seeing Providence. The city looks cool. The movie seems just about right for young children which thankfullly means I don't have to see it.

Children who ask their parents to see this movie should be bitten by dogs, just to prove in no uncertain terms that life is full of disappointments.

Then, I hope all the little talking doggies go to Water Fire or whatever that's called. It's pretty and The Kettle Corn is to die for. |

Why would they take something campy and cool (the original Underdog) and turn it into that embarrassing CGI wormy turd? Hollywood is so fucking weird and stupid.

I'll probably end up taking the kids of the family to that one.
I'm a sucker for talking dogs... and Jason Lee is VO for the dog. I'm thinking matinee. |

I have come to terms quite some time ago that none of my favorite childhood memories in regards to television are sacred. This movie looks stupid and terrible.

I didn't think the fact that this shitty movie is ruining my favorite cartoon of all time could really be any worse.
Until I realized it was filmed in my HOME STATE. Its like they personally want to hurt me. Fuck you Disney!!! |

Is the Underdog Lady going to be appearing in the movie? ![]() Yes, and they seem to have gotten her right. Oh well, at least it'll be better than the The Space Canine Patrol Agents: http://www.geocities.com/cheeksilver/spca.htm Or "The Adventures of Superpup" Unaired TV Pilot (1958) http://www.supermanhomepage.com/multimedia...hp?topic=sounds |

I've been thinking, perhaps too much, about this whole Underdog thing.
The thing that always got me about the cartoon were the opening lines of the song: WHEN CRIMINALS IN THIS WORLD OF FEAR.... Kinda fits the whole 2007 Zeitgeist, don't it? The beloved cartoon was no great shakes itself. It was basically a genial spoof of Superman. Back in '66, in the wake of the Batman show, there was a whole superhero boomlet on Network television. It generated Batman knock-offs like The Green Hornet (previously a radio mainstay) and spoofs like Mr. Terrific and Captain Nice. And tons of cartoons. Sure, they didn't have Underdog say things like "Pup Pup and Away," though they might have if it had occured to them. Underdog was actually the voice of Wally Cox (presumably picked for his self-effacing persona and perhaps for the affinity to that of "Bud" Collyer, who portrayed the radio Clark Kent/Superman). Accepting the very notion that a live-action version of a crudely animated cartoon last popular in the 1960s (and just HOW DESPERATE ARE THE DISNEY PEOPLE?), I suppose the only choices the producers had were: 1) A guy in an underdog mask; 2) An animated cartoon or Pixar-type spectacle; 3) A live-action version with a beagle standing in for the basically beagle-like cartoon Underdog. They probably should have chosen a Pixar-type rendering. Instead, they went with option 3, with CGI fx. Judging from the trailer, this film is going to be a typically brain-dead Disney product, with pratfalls for the sprats and maybe some knowing inside jokes and wisecracks for their suffering parents. Of course, a lot of the youngest kids may have never laid eyes on the original cartoon and will instead be delighted by the spectacle of a wisecracking flying beagle with other unspecified superpowers who implausibly exists in a hellish nightmare world very much like Providence, RI, only with other talking dogs, some of them villainous, and nearly all of them naked, as well as freakish humans who see fit to consort with superpowered canine antagonists. Plus hapless police, small-time hoodlums, and civilians, all of whom accept the premise that flying dogs with the power to speak flawless colloquial English though their larynxes are ill-suuited to the task actually exist. This wouldn't be a bad premise for a horror film, but instead, it'll be spoofy and played for laughs. Such is life. Watch for the inevitable sequels. Maybe Underdog 3 will introduce Overcat, the evil opposite of Underdog. And Underdog will get drunk. I haven't had a stiff drink in years, but I sure do feel like having one now. |
