I wish this guy was running in my district. He's running against Ed Markey.

Capuano I don't think has anybody running against him. Pretty sad that both Dems and Republicans in Congress have such low approval ratings but many of them as always will win their seats with little or no competition.

Gallup may be optimistic. Rasmussen reports Congress' approval rating is at - are you ready - 9% among likely voters!

your mistake is in thinking that these polls have people associating congress with one particular party.

There will be lots of turnover. For both parties.

Nice try though.

This is not the whole story though. One of the biggest problems with Congressional polling (Dem or Rep) is that while most Americans do not approve of the Congress as a whole, they overwhelmingly reelect incumbents and approve of their own rep in Congress. This is mostly due to simple name recognition.

In average years, 90+% of incumbents of both parties are reelected. Even in "Revolutionary" years, like 1994, a vast majority of incumbents are reelected, just less so. Democrats might not sweep the election, but their hold on Congress (at least for now) is pretty safe...

Guy....did you read my post?

First of all - the GOP candidates got a bump from the GOP convention. The Democrat candidates will similarly (and did similarly) get bumps with each national movement for Obama. The debates will likely result in a pretty good bump for Obama. Now, don't get all cranky here - I'm going to say this as a media consultant that I am - not the liberal I am. McCain will NOT come off well in the debates because of his age and his inability to speak off the cuff. He will look feeble compared to Obama.

That said - if Obama comes off as condescending to McCain - or similarly - Biden to Palin - then the bet is off. You can guarantee that the GOP will do the post debate spin "sexist" thing or the "elitist liberal thing" to be sure to dampen what will likely be an impressive performance by Obama.

Secondly, your poll doesn't state how many of those numbers are attached to incumbents and challengers. The anger towards congress has everything to do with incumbency - not party.

i doubt thats theres gonna be a wholesale dumping of congressional and senatorial dems the way there was with the republican ones two years ago
that said, its too bad that americans, being as intellectual as they are laughing.gif can discern that congress has had its hands tieed by a bush protecting guard dog senate
