Miss Nevada Katie Rees Fired Over Raunchy Photos
Thursday, December 21, 2006 ![]() Miss Nevada 2007 Katie Rees NEW YORK Miss Nevada Katie Rees lost her title Thursday after raunchy photos of her surfaced on the Internet. A day after Donald Trump spared the beauty-queen career of Miss USA Tara Conner, Rees one of his state pageant winners sparked a controversy of her own with the racy pictures, which showed Rees exposing one of her breasts and passionately kissing other women, among other things. The announcement was made in New York by the Miss Universe Organization, which owns the Miss USA pageant and others. First runner-up Helen Salas will assume the title and compete at the 2007 Miss USA pageant on March 23 in Los Angeles. Earlier Thursday The Web site Canada.com, which posted the pics, reported that pageant officials were investigating Rees' behavior. The 22-year-old was crowned Miss Nevada in Las Vegas last October, and was to represent the state in the Miss USA pageant next spring. ![]() In a statement sent to the entertainment TV show Extra, an attorney for Rees said: Katie Rees Miss Nevada USA wants the public to know she was 17 and had a lapse in judgment the actions on that evening in subject are in no way indicative of the person she is or the person she has become she is a law-abiding citizen and talented adult. This was an isolated incident that occurred more than five years ago when she was a minor. ![]() Conner was almost stripped of her title Tuesday after reports surfaced that she had attended wild parties in New York's bar scene, took drugs and was seen making out with Miss Teen USA Katie Blair. Trump announced Tuesday that he would allow her to remain Miss USA if she settled down and entered alcohol rehab, which reports indicated she would do on Thursday. ![]() It was also revealed Wednesday that Mothers Against Drunk Driving had cut ties with Blair over reports that the Montana teen had been drinking underage and carousing with Conner. In a story Wednesday in The Billings (Mont.) Gazette, Paula Shugart, president of the Miss Universe Organization, said "a lot of the stories" of Blair's activities were unfounded. "I'm sorry that Katie got dragged into this," Shugart said. "People just wanted to tell a story, and a lot of it is just to see the name of a particular club in the New York papers, whether it's true or not." |

This story is Christmas come early!
Mothers Against Drunk Driving Cuts Ties With Miss Teen USA Katie Blair Amid Allegations of Hard Partying Thursday , December 21, 2006 LOS ANGELES The reigning Miss Teen USA's official biography says she loves hiking, water sports and apples "only cold, red ones!" But allegations of less innocent extracurricular activities underage drinking and carousing with Miss USA Tara Conner led the group Mothers Against Drunk Driving to sever ties with 18-year-old Katie Blair. ![]() Aug. 16: Miss Teen USA Katie Blair, right, poses with Miss USA Tara Conner, center, and Miss Universe Zuleyka Rivera in Palm Springs, Calif. The day before, Conner had tearfully admitted drinking as a minor at New York nightclubs. She turned 21 on Monday. "In the past, MADD has teamed with Miss Teen USA to raise awareness about the serious and often deadly consequences of underage drinking," said Heidi Castle, a spokeswoman for MADD, in a statement. "However, we do not feel, at this time, that Ms. Blair can be an effective spokesperson on underage drinking and will not ask her to represent MADD in future initiatives." A message left for a representative of Blair, an 18-year-old from Billings, Mont., wasn't returned Wednesday. Donald Trump owner of the Miss Universe Organization, which includes Miss Teen USA and Miss USA said Tuesday at a news conference in New York that he would allow Conner to keep her crown if she settled down and entered alcohol rehab. Miss Universe Organization spokeswoman Lark-Marie Anton said Blair's crown also was safe. Anton said the company respected "MADD's decision as much as we respect their work. We look forward to working with them in the future." In a story Wednesday in The Billings (Mont.) Gazette, Paula Shugart, president of the Miss Universe Organization, said "a lot of the stories" of Blair's activities were unfounded. "I'm sorry that Katie got dragged into this," Shugart said. "People just wanted to tell a story, and a lot of it is just to see the name of a particular club in the New York papers, whether it's true or not." Rosie O'Donnell, co-host of ABC's "The View," said on Wednesday's show that Trump's news conference with Conner had annoyed her "on a multitude of levels." "Left the first wife, had an affair, left the second wife, had an affair. Had kids both times, but he's the moral compass for 20-year-olds in America," the comedian and actress said to roars of audience laughter. "Donald, sit and spin, my friend." Trump didn't respond Wednesday to a phone call from The Associated Press seeking comment about O'Donnell's remarks. Report: Miss USA Tara Conner to Enter Celeb Rehab Center in Pennsylvania Thursday , December 21, 2006 After narrowly retaining her crown on the heels scandalous reports of her hard-partying ways, Miss USA Tara Conner, will check into rehab Thursday morning at the Caron Foundation in Wernersville, Pa., according to reports. The 21-year-old beauty queen will be in good company as the center has treated other beleaguered celebs such as rocker Courtney Love, singer Liza Minnelli and child actor Tatum O'Neil. The center treats approximately 4,000 people a year, Access Hollywood reported on Wednesday night. ![]() Dec. 19, 2006: Miss USA 2006 Tara Conner is overcome with emotion during a news conference in New York City. Miss USA pageant owner Donald Trump has close ties to the Caron Foundation. The Donald even hosted the First Annual Caron Classic Golf Tournament at his exclusive Trump National in Bedminster, N.J., last year. Conner was almost stripped of her title Tuesday after reports surfaced that she had attended wild parties in New York's bar scene, took drugs and was seen making out with Miss Teen USA Katie Blair. Trump announced Tuesday that he would allow her to remain Miss USA if she settled down and entered alcohol rehab. "Walking in this morning, in no way did I think it would be possible for a second chance. I've had a very big blessing bestowed upon me you'll never know how much I appreciate Mr. Trump for saving me on this one," Conner said after the press conference. "He could have said 'You're Fired' he's a very, very compassionate person." Trump emphasized that he had great faith in the Conner's ability to recover from the scandal. "Tara is going to be the great comeback kid," he said. |

Do people pay attention to Miss USA/Universe whatever? I can think of exactly 3 times I've thought about them in my life- the one that just happened 'cause she was doing coke or whatever, a few years ago when the girl from Lawrence won, and the one back in the 80s who was posing nude.
Seriously- besides when the eye candy winner is fired because they acted like eye candy, do people actually pay attention to beauty queens? This post has been edited by Defbil: Dec 21 2006, 07:32 PM |

It seemed to work wonders for Vanessa Williams and catapult her career to some pretty sweet levels: ![]() Vanessa is positively beautiful and talented. There was always something about her made her stand above the rest of the average vanilla flavors of the day. I think her career likely would have catapulted regardless of the publicity that surrounded her losing the crown. Look at the chick above. She is crying without a tear in her eye. What kind of act is that? |

I can't believe I got sucked into that on FSN last night. It was like a real pageant, fueled by saline, lousy hotwings, and warm beer. The chick from Caracas was smokin hot. |
