I don't think it's been mentioned yet on the board by either LadyE or I, but this board will be undergoing some major changes in the next week or so. In an effort to curtail server costs and overload issues, the board will be moving to a new format where there will no longer be archives. The amount of time that posts will remain on the board has not yet been determined, but most likely they will last a maximum of 60 days and then disappear forever. Meaning that if no one posts in a thread for over 60 days, that thread is gone. This will greatly decrease server demands and also enable the use of the search feature once again, although obviously you will not be able to search for threads once they have be deleted from the server.
I am not sure what changes will be made to the layout of the board and to the content that exists here now. That will be for LadyE to explain. However, once the new board is set up, I will be resigning as moderator. In regards to the reasons behind my resignation, I simply feel that this board has become too bloated and too unfocused. Admittedly this board has never had a single topic at its core, even though it largely comprised of individuals in the local music scene. People have always been free to discuss any topic they choose, save for a few issues that have been put off limits, such as talk of certain gangs, etc. But I think that although the board has not changed drastically, there are fewer and fewer serious, intelligent discussions to be had, and I think many long-term users have stopped posting as a result. It has simply gotten tiresome to even bother voicing an opinion. It's futile, really. It is a waste of my time to continue to spend hours here rehasing the same tired debates on fat chicks, pit bulls, gun control, and the presidency. The same can certainly be said for any number of message boards on the internet, and the Noise Board is far from being the worst of its kind, but the fact remains that I see less and less of a reason to stay here. I can also tell that a lot of you are getting bored with this place, or why else would a separate board be started where people can log in anonymously and hurl pointless, inane barbs at the more prominent members? Some of you try to say that it's a reaction to the censorship that goes on here, but we are all aware that's not true. It's simply a way to create more drama and hence entertainment in an environment that has become stale. Most of us are aware of who is fat, bald, ugly, annoying, or has a bizarre obsession with cihmpanzees. None of these facts are new or particuarly shocking. It's just a last ditch effort to potentially spice things up, but clearly it's not going to work. Few people are going to want to be part of a community where they are insulted all day long, and furthermore, most of us don't really give a shit. Anonymous shit-talking is old as the internet itself, and any 10 year-old with a keyboard can log into a message board and call someone fat. With that in mind, over the next two weeks, while this board is in a state of overhaul, I plan to start up a new board that is solely music based. There will no talk of burlesque girls, dressers, and definitely no more rants from dimenno. For those topics, there will always be the Noise Board. My new board will be aimed at people who want to discuss new and old music of any genre, post show info, sell and buy gear, and have potentially interesting discussions about music in general. Everyone is welcome to post, as long as they stay on topic. It will not be a place to personally attack people or gossip about who's fucking who. Again, for those things you will always have this board. I will not be posting a link on this board as I do not want to blatantly leech users away. But anyone who thinks my idea might have potential is welcome to contact me about it. I will certainly be open to suggestions about making it a useful resource to all musicians and music fans. I have definitely enjoyed a lot of my time spent posting here and am not leaving for good. I think the majority of the people that post here are awesome and without you this board would not have succeeded as much as it has. With as much credit as people like AChick, jonerik, ladyeleanor, jonah, hobot, Anna, and anyone else that has moderated deserve, it's truly the dedicated users here that keep this place alive. Also I think that although T-Max does not have a real visible presence in the operation of the board (he is not the overlord that many of you suspect him to be), without his financial support it would not exist as it does today. As for the future of this board, I would hate to see it die out. I think it still has a lot of potential, and hopefully the change will spark some new life into it. There are still a lot of great things going on here, but only time will tell whether or not they sustain the user base. |

I think everyone should start their own board and just talk to themselves.
What the hell is going on around here? Well... good job being a moderator while you were. I wouldn't want that job. I guess that's where you would notice people getting all whiney about being picked on and so forth. |

Hopefully you'll still continue to post here T Bone. I personally don't mind the non-music threads as long as there's at least a few decent musically relevant threads going on as well. I like that there's a board that has most if not all of the relevant local music news, plus discussions of current events and yes, even a little gossip.

Right choice at the right time. T-Bone, you have done a great service for the NB, and I have no doubt your next venture will be a success. Please let me know when you've got something set up, and thanks for dealing with all of us for so long.
I apologize for all the times you've had to ban me ;^) |

I'm sad to see you go T-Bone, but I understand where you're coming from. You've really gone above and beyond for this board. You were always really helpful to me, so thanks for that. Let me know about that new board.

I'm not really a big fan of those. I will continue to post here as long as there are a few interesting topics. This will probably always be a great place to come to for advice on a wide variety of topics. And while this board still has a lot to offer, it's just feels like I am spending too much time here and not getting enough back in return. |

Is a big, long, tedious goodbye thread from a moderator any different than one from a poster who is fed up?
