I heard from someone that basically said it shouldn't have been done. Didn't make me feel good about it. I am still holding out hope.

I'm going to the IMAX in Reading. I'll be dressed as the naked Dr. Manhattan.

Most of the negative reviews seem to be from dudes who've never seen a vagina in person, or one they didn't pay for. Or, more specifically, the rest of the guys at the comic shop chipped in so he could see a vagina.

saw this yesterday and i was actually surprised at how NOT disappointed i was (but then again, i entered the theatre with the sense of mind to know that no matter what, the comic would be the comic and the movie would be the movie)

aside from a few outright gaffes (a sex scene which came off almost as a parody thanks to the soundtrack- i'm still not sure if the director was trying to be ironic or not), it was pretty good- and it stuck pretty close to the source material, though a major plot shift at the end that was completely changed from the comic actually seemed to work pretty well in context (at least in my opinion)

best acting was from Jackie Earl Haley as Rorshach and the guy that was also in Little Children (guy who played Night Owl II), though i suppose you don't go to a flick like this for the acting...

i think the guy that played Adrian Veidt should have been bigger physically

anyhoo, not too bad, krispy gives it a 6.5 out of 10, haha

I have heard it is fucking LONG! Ugh.

I have heard mixed reviews as well but the real Watchmen fans I know thought it was raging from good to ok. I haven't heard anyone ecstatic about it.

I want to see it but I wasn't into the comic book at all. No exposure.

it is long, but it kind of had to be to fit everything in... from my understanding the director cut it down from an over-three-hour running time

the other thing i was thinking to myself while i was watching it was, that if no one had read the comic, they would probably be lost and confused as shit- there's a lot of stuff to absorb, and if i hadn't read it, i think i would have been baffled, to be honest...

and full disclosure here, though i wouldn't label myself a 'Watchmen geek', i have to admit i've read the thing about 4 or 5 times between the 80's and a few months ago- mostly because i thought it was just a great story, told in a fantastic way, and there's all kinds of stuff you pick up each time you read it that you may not necessarily have gotten from a previous read or whatever...

He did a really good job. He was also Kelly in the Bad News Bears. The little lady and I had to watch that yesterday to see him.

i liked him a lot in Breaking Away, too...

he was pretty awesome in Little Children- if i'm not mistaken he may have actually been nominated for an Oscar for that performance...

I thought the movie was pretty great. Dave Gibbons had already set up many of the shots, and the story was great, so all the director had to do was not really fuck anything up.

And this may be heresy, but I think I like the movie's ending more than the comic's. At least, it made for better film than the comic's ending would've.

It was a little campy at times (Nixon was a little exaggerated, no? - and the sex scene was kinda funny) but overall very good. Dr. Manhattan is rad.

I really liked it. Acting below par, soundtrack too, but the visuals, action, story etc were great. Totally worth seeing IMO.

I haven't seen it yet, but know what the ending change is. I'm kind of with you on this. I thought the squid thing was a bit weird and kind of unnecessary. I definitely think it would have been very strange in a film.

i didn't like it. loved the book. love the book.
that sex scene mentioned earilier, with the bad soundtrack?
i had to cover my eyes it was so bad.
almost all of the music, aside from opening scene, was DREADFULL!!!!
didn't like the new ending, but it made good sense, so hard to demerit
there. i knew they changed the ending cuz i read it.
i was just dissapointed in general.
it's a dark book, and the movie goes from dark, to goofy as shit,
to dark again, and it does not work.
rorschack looks and sounds awesome, pretty much all the characters do,
it just feels like a goofy miss=mash of a story by the end.
i really wanted it to be great. it is not.

I think the storyline was appropriate for the time in which it was written but now the movie ending works better overall. I think Moore reached a bit with the squid. The new ending is much more tidy.

While I liked it a lot I am kind of torn. I normally don't understand the point of view of the globe reviewers, or I at least disagree with them a bit, but in this case I almost totally agree with everything Ty Burr said about the movie.

I think Jackie Earl did a great job as Rorshack. I thought Crudup was really good as well.

There was a thread up on Craigslist about the movie that said, "Gays love the giant blue dick". laughing.gif

Yeah, the squid is just whacky. The concept and reasoning behind the "event" makes total sense. But, that's really the best way he could come up with annihilating a city?

The squid works for the book, I think it would look like shit in the movie though. Overall, the novel was better (as is the case usually) but I enjoyed the movie and that ending as well.
