posted before, but this is a must-have, and it's still up there FREE!
the legendary VENOM stage banter clips heard this on the radio years ago & been looking for it ever since 8 and a half minutes of total retardation love how someone cut the songs to 2 seconds no home should be without this - !!! to quote, "Cronos' genius comedic delivery and his subtle methods of toying with the overly aggro crowd can't be captured with just a simple transcription. You gotta hear it." http://blog.wfmu.org/freeform/2005/08/your...in_pr.html#more |

The Metal Black record that came out a few years ago wasn't bad either. Just sayin'. Of course it wasn't like the old stuff!

I used to get my amp repaired at a little shop in Keene, NH that Mike Hickey worked at (or was always hanging around in). That's about as close to Vemon as a brother wants to be

Cronos used to live in Western Ma. We bonded at a Manowar show. Actually a nice guy. He had killer doc martins on. Told me where to go to get me some. We drank about 20 beers together. I thought he was cool. Turns out he was a big Dinosaur Jr. fan. So I called J and those guys had a sort of love fest as J loves Venom. Cool night.

Funny that H Rollins would talk shit about this band considering how awful Black Flag by that time. (Rat's Eyes, anyone?)
It's funny how time changes perspective. His inflexible righteousness now seems a lot sillier than metal songs about the devil. |

That's what music community is all about right there. Nice. |

His inflexible righteousness now seems a lot sillier than metal songs about the devil. I got the impression his disdain for them had nothing to do with their music but with the fact that they had roadies and slept in hotels and had cushy tour riders, heaven forbid we aren't all Franciscan monks like Hank. |

They had two guitarists from 2 other English bands filling in for Mantas. The show the year after with Voivod and The Cromags was one of the greatest shows I've ever seen in my life. (Almost as good as Metallica at The Rat.) I've said this before on this board, but other people say the same shit over and over again so it's not a big deal. And for the record, Black Flag is so fucking overrated, it's not funny. |

Damaged is a masterpiece, but what followed was mostly forgettable at best, noisy, pretentious and irritating at worst. Venom has stood the test of time, where Black Flag hasn't. Oh, I don't know. The First Four Years, Everything Went Black, My War, Slip It In, Loose Nut, Live in 85, Who's Got the 10 1/2? and the '82 Demos all rock pretty hard for me. My War might be my favorite album of all time. The only stuff that I can pass on is In My Head (which still has its moments, re: Out Cold) and the instrumentals. |
