Opens Friday. It's about an American guy who gets kicked out of college, goes to England, and hooks up with a gang of soccer hooligans. This year's "Romper Stomper?"

I'm psyched for this. I think it may be titled Green Street Hooligans in the US.

I wonder how this compares with "Among The Thugs"...which could easily be adapted for a movie.

Looks like it will water down most of the elements of true English Football Hooligans. I just don't trust anything that looks too Hollywood these days.

If they used ALL of the proper slang, the movie would be like a Streets song - you'd need subtitles for American audiences. |

I have no problem with that at all. They had subtitles for the Quadrophenia film when it came out in 1979. In retrospect thank god they did otherwise it would hav lost a lot of what made it so distintively English. |

Did audiences really think when they were talking about "blues" that they were into BB King or a St. Louis hockey team? |

Slade's movie "Flame" only played in a few American cities, but that had subtitles in this country, too. |

QUOTE(jonerik @ Sep 6 2005, 12:38 PM) QUOTE(DanPM @ Sep 6 2005, 11:32 AM) Six months ago I'd have agreed with you. That is, until I saw "Sin City." ![]() Yeah, maybe. Wood's part in Sin City was 100% stylized and very limited in scope. And he was great in it. I suspect the point / cool angle to this move will be his character's metamorphosis into a hooligan. Evolving characters is more interesting, and harder to do convincingly. |
