Hello,

Here's the skinny.

Quietroom

.
(PR) This March, PBS stations nationwide will premiere The Clash Live: Revolution Rock, a new documentary film chronicling live performances from the iconic punk pioneers at the peak of their powers. A preview of the April 15 DVD release, this is a real tribute to the band's electric LIVE PERFORMANCES, and something you won't want to miss.
The Clash Live: Revolution Rock DVD follows the live transformation of the band, incorporating footage from all phases of The Clash's meteoric career, beginning with live-in-the-studio clips from 1979, through triumphant concerts from clubland (London's The Music Machine, 1978) and theatres (The Lyceum, 1978, 1980), climaxing with a transcendent blow-out performance at New York's Shea Stadium in 1982. The DVD also includes rare footage of the band's performance on The Tom Snyder Show and on ABC's Fridays.

Tracklisting (not final):
Complete Control – Music Machine, London 1978
White Riot – live in studio, 1976
London's Burning – live in studio, 1976
English Civil War – London Lyceum, January 79
I Fought The Law – London Lyceum, January 79

Machine, London 1978
Guns Of Brixton – "Fridays" April 1980
Train In Vain – Lewisham Odeon, February 1980

That footage from The Tomorrow Show is pretty amazing - it doesn't hurt that it's from my favorite era of The Clash:

Hello,

The Clash are probably in my top five favorite bands if I sat down and thought hard enough. I'm really looking forward to this DVD. Naturally some of it has been available on bootlegs, but this will be cool to have it all together.

I saw them many, many times in various states, mental and geographical.

I was pleasantly suprised recently to get my greedy mitts on a bootleg of the Harvard Square Theatre show which I attended. Not great, but decent.

Weirdly enough I never went to any of the Bond's shows which must have been a blast.

I should also mention Carbon/Silicon is at TT's on 04/05. Got my ticket.

I mean with all the "I was there" stuff. Not doubting you but I'm sure that I have heard people say that when they were probably home in Omaha at the time. Besides when when you're in NYC, you don't need a port-a-pottie...

Oh ok. Well that was really really exciting for me at the time. Driving to NYC from RI for that show..really any show was exciting let alone to see the Clash. I was not quite 21 yet and the whole thing was pretty fantastic. We were in the balcony area and it was sureal.

Actually seeing any show now in NYC is still very much a thrill.

I'm very jealous. I was 5 years too young to see a lot of my favorite bands in their prime.

Figured out where I dreamed this whole thing up. There was a documentary on Joe Strummer on Comcast and they interviewed a bunch of Hollywood types who all claimed that the Bonds shows changed their lives.

Not too surprising since so many people saw them that week. Though it's a cliche now they did feel like the only band that mattered at the time.

Watch the Snyder interview - they talk about it there. I think they added a whole ton of additional shows.

http://homepage.mac.com/blackmarketclash/B...ATES.html#Bonds

...play on music: “6 Seconds To Watch” by Ennio Morricone, from For A Few Dollars More...Grandmaster Flash and The Furious Five are among the opening acts...after the first gig of the original seven-show run, the NYC fire marshall orders the club closed for safety reasons; eventually, the shows are rescheduled to accomodate all ticket-holders...

A strike in Britain had left 5 British bands in the UK and only 3 managed to make it with the Clash. Only the Slits, Funkapolitan and The Equators, who were slated for the matinee shows, made it. Left behind were the remains of Selector, The B-People , The Bell Stars, Aswad and most of all Theatre of Hate whom Mick had produced their debut album.

There were two opening acts each night: one British or Jamaican and one American. Hopefully the correct artists are listed by the correct dates. Support Acts included Grandmaster Flash and the Treacherous Three, The Sirens, The Sugerhill Gang, Funkapolitan, Lee Perry, Texan bard Joe Ely, and a forgotten horn-section-and-skinny-tie band called the Nitecaps. And, plucked fresh off the stage of CBGB's, Miller Miller Miller & Sloane and a KRAUT who had formed 3 weeks earlier with only 3 demo songs and who never played live. Plus bands that showed The Clash’s continuing identification and admiration for punk; The Dead Kennedys, Bad Brains, The Fall, The Slits, and The Bloods (not to mention The Brattles!). ESG a womans funk band from New York. The Rockets and the Equators were scheduled for the first matinee show which got cancelled.

May 28 Bonds Times Square, New York
Grandmaster Flash & The Furious Five opened

May 29 Bonds Times Square, New York

May 31 Bonds Times Square, New York

Jun 1 Bonds Times Square, New York

Jun 2 Bonds Times Square, New York
Bad Brains and the Slits opened

Jun 3 Bonds Times Square, New York
The Treacherous Three and The Sirens opened

Jun 4 Bonds Times Square, New York
The Bloods opened the show f/b The Bush Tetras.

Jun 5 Bonds Times Square, New York
Four female singers singing accapella and Lee Perry opened

Jun 6a Bonds Times Square, New York
(afternoon) I was at the June 6th matinee show in 1981 in Bond's. The Dead Kennedys did NOT perform then. It was the Hi-School band The Brattles who opened the matinee show, followed by Funkopolitin. The "We love you clash" that is heard mid-show is caused by a mic that fell into the audience. Joe just watched kind of amused while these guys in the first rows yelled into the mic. After a while, the roadies got it back and set it up again.

Jun 6e Bonds Times Square, New York
(evening) The Dead Kennedys?

Jun 8 Bonds Times Square, New York

Jun 9 Bonds Times Square, New York
The Fall were the support act. This is the pro-recorded concert.

Jun 10 Bonds Times Square, New York
Allen Ginsberg makes an appearance

Jun 11 Bonds Times Square, New York

Jun 12 Bonds Times Square, New York

Jun 13a Bonds Times Square, New York
(afternoon) Hi-School band The Brattles opened the matinee show, plus The Rock-cats? who they had a slap bass and played Stray Cats-type music.

Jun 13e Bonds Times Square, New York
(evening) The Dead Kennedys

Hello,

Technically it's their first CD, although they have been releasing free downloads since around 2004.

The CD is good. It's got a positive, upbeat feel to it that makes it fun to listen to. I'd file it the pop section rather than the rock section. If it wasn't for the pedigree in the band I'm not sure how many people would be paying attention.

Their concept of bringing free music to the listeners got them more attention than the music itself.

I'm a Clash fan, so it's always cool to be able to see one of them in concert.

I love River Gods and I think it's a cool idea. You should do it.
It doesn't work for me as I live in Providence and plan my late nights carefully since I'm up by 6am. But I can't see why it would be an issue for the rest of the folks here who live close by..

This dvd sounds a little disappointing to me. I wish they would put out a Clash dvd similar to those Kiss dvds, with multiple complete shows. All the material on this dvd is pretty well known and easy to find. I have pretty much everything on this dvd and then some. Just a bit disappointing. That being said, I'll probably still buy it.
